She presses the back of her hand against my forehead. “You’re clammy. Any nausea, dizziness, fainting, blurred vision?”
“No.” I groan when she squeezes my arm. A bit of blood drops out. The room spins a bit. “Okay. Now I have some dizziness.”
“If I lose my job…” she grumbles, not bothering to finish her sentence.
“You won’t,” Paddy says.
She bites her lip and closes her eyes as she contemplates for a moment, then brings her eyes to mine. “I’m only doing this because I’m sure your blood pressure is low. Don’t ever come back here looking for help again. Do you understand me?”
“Yes, I understand. Thank you,” Paddy says.
“Follow me.”
She drags us down the hall, her head turning left and right occasionally as she leads us. We reach the ER and she shoves us into an empty stall with curtains as dividers. “Wait here.”
She turns to leave, and I try to get a good look at her ass, but the white coat she wears washes out her figure. I groan again out of frustration instead of pain. How do I suddenly have a doctor fantasy, when I have no idea what she’s even packing under her coat? There’s no way that my dick is twitching in my pants over her personality.
I don’t do personalities; I do one-night stands.
As I sit on the hospital bed, I smile at Paddy. “She doesn’t seem so rabid to me.”
Paddy chuckles, shaking his head. “The ladies fall when they hear that accent. I swear you do it on purpose. You’ve been here too long to have such a strong dialect.”
“How’s her ass out of that doctor’s coat?”
“Round.” He hides his smirk behind his hand, peering at me from the corner of his eye. He knows I’m a sucker for a nice ass, and he’s taunting me on purpose, the bastard.
Haley returns, hands full of supplies. She drops them on the side table beside me and rests her hands on her hips. Her coat opens, revealing navy blue scrubs. Still, it’s hard to get a good look at her curves.
“I need to check your BP.”
“My what?”
“Blood pressure. If it’s too low, you can go into hypovolemic shock. It occurs when you lose too much blood. It’ll kill you if not treated.”
“I’ve gotten shot plenty before, lass. This is nothing compared to others.”
Clenching her jaw, she stands straighter. “Are all men this stupid?”
Paddy interjects before I can come up with a smartass answer. “That’s rhetorical.”
The Sexy Doctor gloves up her hands and wraps the cuff around my arm. Her hair falls as she leans over me, brushing my elbow, and it tickles a bit. The closeness of her has me stiffening and wanting more.
Chapter six
Paddysitsonthebackless spinning chair, while I treat his brother’s wound. I’m not sure why I agreed to this. It’s not because when I touched Callum’s arm I felt…. connected? I’m not sure if that’s the right word for what I felt when my bare fingers met with his hot flesh.
It sent butterflies to my core.
I convince myself that if I don’t treat him, his wound will get infected, and he will be waiting in the Emergency Department for an amputation. While that would be a more exciting surgery for me, I made an oath to save lives, not ruin them.
″You went digging in here,” I scold Patrick. The wound in Callum’s arm has jagged marks, and it’s clear he stuffed a knife in there in a shit poor attempt to get the bullet out.
″We thought he could get it out,” Callum says.
As I glance at him, I take in his facial features. He has a pretty thick beard that he keeps neatly trimmed. It’s a beautiful shade of auburn. Brown with a twist of red, a deep burgundy color. Being so close I get to take in all the beautiful ink covering him. Tattoos cover him from the top of his collarbone down to his wrists, and his knuckles even have various markings. Skulls, Celtic designs, a Celtic dagger. Blue-green eyes stare me down when he realizes mine have been lingering for too long.
I swallow hard, glancing down at the wound. I’ve numbed and sterilized his arm, so I take tweezers and pull the bullet from Callum’s bicep. It takes a bit, but finally I manage. “It was close to your bone. That’s why you struggled,” I say.
