“What the hell?”

A loud, deep voice echoed around in the small space. The words to the song died on her lips, right along with Natalie’s silly dance moves, as her stomach dropped and fear shot through her. Without considering the edge of the butcher block, she spun, losing her balance, her eyes going wide.

He’s going to murder me, and I’m not even wearing a bra.

The doorto the mudroom shut behind Declan and his son Chris as they walked into the cabin. Declan held the phone a few inches from his ear so the volume of his ex’s voice didn’t do permanent damage to his eardrum.

“What the hell?” he snapped, rounding the corner into his kitchen. “Lauren, why do you always have to be so—” Declan couldn’t finish the sentence before the phone fell from his hand. His body moved without permission because a tiny blonde was falling off the counter. Years of instinct kicked in as he moved into position to catch her.

Her pointy elbow smacked hard into the apple of his cheek as his hand slid to grab her upper thigh. Instead of letting him catch her, like a normal fucking person, she thrashed and fought likehewas theproblem, causing them both to teeter. He swallowed a grunt when he slammed into the slate floor, taking the brunt of the fall and hitting the ground with anumphjust as her body landed hard on top of him.

“Don’t touch me!” the crazed loon shouted.

“I’m trying to help you, lady. Stop flailing around.” He pinned her arms to her sides, forcing her to still and leaving her awkwardly pressed to his chest. He needed a second to regroup and chill this woman out. Walking into his house and having a person fall out of the sky had shaken up his plans for the day.

“Mom?” Chris stomped next to Declan’s head, taking over the conversation with his mom. “No, he pulled some naked lady on top of him, and now they’re laying on the floor.”

Jesus.That wasnotwhat happened.

His ex was controlling and possessive to the extreme, which were two of the many reasons he and Lauren hadn’t worked out. But because the women who constantly swarmed around him and his teammateshaddone absurd shit during his time as a major league baseball player, Lauren was a watchdog about his time with their six-year-old. This stunt, though, took the cake. A baseball-obsessed stranger crashing his son’s Christmas vacation in a skimpy robe crossed too many lines for Declan to even process.

If his agent had let his whereabouts slip again, he’d find himself out of a job. The last thing he wanted was for his ex to drive up here and steal their son back. Plus, this woman wasn’t even naked.

But now that he was looking, the blonde’s robe had ridden up to reveal a tight ass covered in a scrap of lace.Great. Just what he needed. He grabbed the robe—if anyone could call the short, silky material that—and yanked it down over her ass. He didn’t need to scar Chris.

As soon as he released her arms, she shot up like a rocket, straddling his right leg.

“You better let me go.” She balled one hand into a fist with her thumb tucked under her fingers while she struggled to hold her robe together with the other. The woman didn’t even know how to punch without breaking her thumb.

Nothing about this woman screamed ball bunny. Although the outfit was aggressive, her angry demeanor didn’t jibe with a woman who’d break laws for his attention. And the soft lavender scent was the exact opposite of the cloying perfume most bunnies he’d met wore. He was starting to feel like a perv for staring at the soft swell of her breasts against the satin fabric. It was hot, especially the way she was straddling his leg.

He’d love to grab her hips and—

Jesus, idiot.Stop it.

He shook his head. His son was ten feet behind him, his ex on the other end of phone—no doubt more pissed than she had been when they were arguing two minutes prior—and he was not letting himself get turned on by a ball bunny who’d broken into his house.

No matter how long it had been since he’d had sex.

He sighed as she pulled her fist back. This should be good.

“Okay, listen. I’m trying to be a nice guy, but I’m going to have to call the police if you hit me again.”

“Again?” She cocked her head, and her eyebrows pulled together. Her utter confusion gave him a moment to extract himself from below her and get to his feet.

“Give me the phone, Chris.” He held his hand out to his son.

“Oh, Mom hung up.” Chris’s straight dark hair hung in his eyes, and he brushed it back as he shrugged a shoulder. “She sounded angry.”

Of course she did.

Hopefully the blizzard would keep her from driving up here to add to this.

“I thought you were supposed to be good at catching things, Dad. How’d you miss the naked lady so badly?”

Declan closed his eyes again, trying not to laugh. “I catch baseballs. Not wet noodles falling from the sky.”
