She cocked her head and stared at his chest. “This was fun,” she said, nibbling her lip, “and maybe we’ll do it again. But Chris can’t find me in here. That would confuse him.”

Declan frowned. It made sense, but that didn’t mean he liked it.

“Can I borrow a T-shirt for now?” she asked.

“You can have anything you want.” His tone didn’t convey the same sentiment as his words.

Her eyes narrowed, and he cleared his throat. He pulled her close again, letting his lips press against her. She sighed into his mouth before pulling back.

“Good night.” She smiled as she slipped out of bed.

Need almost had him reaching out. He wanted more of her. He wanted that feeling back. The one only she’d ever given him. He wanted—

Who was he kidding? He wasn’t a good option for Natalie. In six weeks, he’d be back to full-time baseball. He’d travel almost nonstop. And all his free time would be spent with Chris. Plus, if Lauren found out about Natalie, she’d make his life a living hell as well as Natalie’s. This gorgeous woman deserved better than all that. And no matter what he wanted, he wouldn’t force her into that life. But he had three more days with her, and he intended to make the most of every minute.

Natalie hitthe brew button on the coffee maker, bringing it to life just as the warmth of Declan’s chest pressed against her back. He wrapped his strong arms around her waist. Leaving his bed last night was the last thing she’d wanted to do, but regardless of her desire, she had to do what was best for Declan’s son.

He nuzzled her jaw before trailing kisses down her neck. With her eyes closed, she leaned back into his embrace. Could they have something more? It was obvious he felt their connection too. But obsessing about it for the five hundredth time would do her no good.

“I woke up hungry this morning. Too bad we couldn’t havebreakfastin bed.”

His growl shot through her, settling deep in her stomach. Lost in the feel of his lips, she was craving more than food. But she could whip something up.

“I can make pancakes.” She sighed as he continued his assault on her neck, nipping and soothing each sensitive spot he’d discovered last night.

“I was thinking of a different kind ofpancakesthis morning.”

Oh. Oh.

“Thosepancakes would have been delicious.”

Before Declan could respond, what sounded more like a herd of elephants charging down the back stairs caused Declan to release his hold on her and move away.

It was amazing how kids could sneak downstairs so quietly when they were supposed to be in bed and yet sound like they were bringing down the house with their footfalls at any other time of day.

“Natalie, are you making breakfast?” Chris yawned as he appeared in the kitchen.

“I can make you breakfast, bud,” Declan interjected before she could respond.

“But…I don’t want eggs again. I want pancakes.”

Declan threw his head back and guffawed, his whole face lighting up in shocked amusement.

Natalie’s mouth fell open as what she thought was the impossible happened right before her eyes.

“What? It’s funny.” Declan shrugged.

“Why is that funny, Dad?” Chris shook his head. “Natalie’s just better at some stuff.”

Declan chuckled again. The lightness of his entire being had Natalie smiling too.

“I didn’t know your dad knew how to laugh.”

Chris turned and studied his father. “Yeah, he doesn’t do it very much.”

Declan smiled and shrugged one shoulder. “What can I say? I’m in a good mood.” He shot her a wink before brushing past her and stepping up to the coffee maker.
