I opened my mouth and spoke before I thought better of it. “I follow you around and talk all day.”

Corbin tipped his head back to the ceiling for a moment, and when he looked at me, he wore a smile. “Babe, it’s different with you.”

I almost questioned about how he found me different, but he continued talking as if his simple answer was enough. “Cyrus said he stocked the fridge today, but my brother and I don’t always agree on what constitutes as food.”

He opened the fridge door, and I stood behind him, peeking inside to see what exactly his twin purchased.

From the bottles lining the top and middle shelf of the refrigerator, it seemed Cyrus wanted to drink all of his meals. I saw two different kinds of alcohol and even a small selection of wine coolers. I guess he thought of me?

“I see what you mean,” I said, shifting to the side and reaching beyond Corbin to grab the most interesting thing in the refrigerator. On top of the empty pizza box sat a small square package with the words “Ribbed for her pleasure” written across the entire front.

“Condoms?” I asked, grabbing the box.

Corbin ripped it from my hands, his neck turning a light shade of red I’d never seen. Was he embarrassed or angry?

“I did not tell my brother to buy those. He’s a funny one. Right?” he said, tossing the box behind him where it landed in the sink.

Definitely agitated. But why?

Because I saw them or because they were there at all? And how bad did it make me that seeing the box had me thinking other things? The thought of having Corbin all to myself was almost too much to consider. He was helping me with the thumb drive and nothing more. Why were my hormones raging? I should have been crying, not thinking sexy thoughts.

I couldn’t deny the fact that when we kissed, I swore my entire world turned on its axis. It was probably wrong of me to fall for my savior, but I didn’t have enough working brain cells to talk myself out of it. Staying alive and wondering what happened after Corbin broke the encryption consumed my energy leaving behind only adrenaline and a hearty sex drive I’d been missing the last year.

Corbin scowled at the box in question is if he might light it on fire from his gaze alone.

“No offense,” I said, leaning up against the counter and blocking his view of the condoms, “but your brother comes off like an asshole.”

Corbin bit out a laugh as if he couldn’t believe I said something about his brother. He closed the fridge and used his body to box me against the side, getting into my space.

“Babe,” he whispered against my ear, bringing back first kiss memories. “Nothing makes you hotter than when you’re calling my brother an asshole.”

I swallowed hard and tried to get my erratic heartbeat under control so he didn’t notice. The room grew warm, and Corbin rested his forehead against mine, the two of us sharing a small moment in the large home.

“So you’re not mad?” I asked, nothing louder than a whisper.

He released me and side stepped, creating a swoosh of air in the space, which instantly cooled my heated skin. “No, I love him, but he reallyisan asshole sometimes.”

And then he turned, grabbed his laptop bag from the floor, and slid it on the coffee table in the living room. As if we hadn’t just shared a moment. That he didn’t make my blood almost boil in my veins with his protective covering and delicate whispers.

Something was definitely growing between Corbin and me, but I didn’t know what or when it might come to a head or how I’d respond when it did. That particular moment I would’ve done just about anything he asked. Including ripping my shirt off and dry humping him against the counter.

He obviously at least saw me moderately attractive, considering the way he kissed me in the Escalade earlier, but guys found lots of girls mildly attractive. It didn’t mean he wanted anything more. Maybe he was as much caught up in the moment as I was and did something he now regretted. The thought upset me, but I had to consider it as a possibility.

I watched him, keeping my eyes on the way his muscles flexed underneath his shirt as he retrieved the thumb drive from a pocket of his jeans.

We’d finally gotten all the pieces together. The thumb drive, the laptop, and Corbin. Now we had to wait and see what the drive held and what that meant for my future.

CHAPTER14

CORBIN

Istretched out my power cord and plugged it into the surge protector strip underneath the couch before connecting the cord to my laptop. It finished booting up and Hazel and found a spot beside me on the couch. She leaned over, watching my moves.

With anyone else in the world, it drove me absolutely insane when people watched me. I would’ve kicked them out of the small area immediately. I liked my own personal bubble and didn’t want people too close. No one needed to see what I did. I had trade secrets on my laptop. But I didn’t have any of those feelings with Hazel. In fact, the more she leaned into my space, the more I wanted to grab on to her and pull her into my lap.

Hazel would never be close enough for me.

“How long will it take?” she asked, staring at my screen as I clicked on my encryption program.
