Her eyes were wide, suddenly on alert for the oncoming danger. “Yeah. The last time this happened you took five years to get over it.”

“Isla! That’s not true. We only kissed five years ago.”

She froze in place. “Good point. Scratch what I said. You never did actually get over it.” She put her chin in her hands. “Tell me every detail. Starting with—was it good?”

I closed my eyes. “Sooo good. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about.”

“It sounds like that’s totally what we should talk about.”

I shook my head and told her everything about getting squished up together in the booth, Josh kissing me, and me getting amnesia. When I was finished, Isla whistled again.

“He is in love with you. He’s out to win you back! He’ll leave London behind for good, and the two of you will live happily ever after at home in Atlanta.”

Isla was fantastic at getting carried away. “He said literallynoneof those things.”

“They’re all true, though.”

“We don’t know that.” I wrapped both hands around my mug. “I don’t know. I’m conflicted. I mean, that kiss with Josh was just—wow—it was just explosive.” My body flamed anew just thinking about it. “All my feelings for him came rushing to the surface, and I haven’t had a chance to shove them back down again yet.”

Isla stirred her coffee. “Yeah. Big, powerful kiss erupting from big, powerful emotions.”

I sat back. “But I’ve just started seeing Tanner, and he’s really sweet and fun, and we have a great time together. Not to mention he’s absolutelygorgeous—”

She shook her head. “He looks just like Josh, but go on.”

“He looks likehimself,” I correct, “a gorgeous male modelandhe’s totally into me.”

Isla clasped her hands and puckered her lips a moment before speaking as if she had something unpleasant tasting on her tongue. “Has Josh met…Tanner…yet?”

“No, why?”

Worry lined her brow. “Don’t you think Josh will find…Tanner…a little odd when they meet?”

I tilted my head, frowning. “Odd? In what way?”

Her eyes narrowed. “You don’t see it? Come on. You see it.” She gave a nervous chuckle. “You see it, right?”

I blinked at her. “See what?” Something suddenly occurred to me. “Is this some dig about him being so much more attractive than I am? That he’s way too far out of my league? The whole, he’s a model, but I’m just a regular person type of problem?”

She put her palms flat on the table like she needed the support of something solid. “No. No. No. This is definitely not that. You’re beautiful, Marg. Inside and out. You could date twenty models.”

I laughed. “I only need one.”

“You onlyneedJosh.”

I folded my arms. “You don’t know that. Besides, I have to see how this thing with Tanner is going to play out.”

She gave me a look. “Whatever you have with…Tanner…is not going to compare to what you could have with Josh.”

“Why do you keep doing that?”

“Doing what?”

“Pausingbefore you say Tanner’s name.”

She bit her lip. “Oh. Am I doing that?”

“Yes. You are totally doing that. A lot.”
