“No thanks.” Keegan took a step back.

“Suit yourself. Hawke, it’s your turn.”

Keegan glanced between us, looking like a mouse about to flee. Hawke scooped her up before she even took a single step.

“It would have been more fun if we let her run,” I said.

Hawke groaned, nodding. He tossed Keegan over his shoulder. She pushed herself up and glared at me.

“What the hell is wrong with all of you?”

I took hold of her chin and moved closer. “So much, baby. You haven’t even scratched the surface.”

Keegan jerked her face away as we began to head back toward our cages.

“Put me the hell down,” Keegan shouted as she pounded against Hawke’s back.

I shook my head. “You’re only turning him on.”

At my words, Keegan stopped breathing heavily as she gave in. I wasn’t fooled. I saw the fight in her eyes. She had so much left in her. I just hoped Aridole didn’t snuff it out.

“Bastards,” Keegan huffed.

I kept my gaze moving around us, but no matter what, it traveled back to the new girl. She was like a magnet, steadily pulling my focus back to her. Despite the distraction, we made it back without any incident.

Lux and Sam glanced our way, and I knew the moment they realized just who we’d caught. Lux was the first to recover. “Put her in the cage with the others.”

“I’m not going in a goddam cage!”

Lux cocked a brow our way, and I shrugged. “She’s feisty.”

Samson shook his head, his smile beaming on his face now that so many people were in the cage.

“You will go where we put you,” Lux said.

“Put me the fuck down. I am over this stupid shit.” Keegan wiggled, but Hawke’s hold wasn’t going to be broken so easily.

“Do I have to put her with the others?” Hawke whined.

I had to side with him on this one. I wanted to keep her with us. See just how much fight she had in her.

“Yes,” Lux said. He stepped around Hawke and grabbed a fistful of Keegan’s hair. She let out a grunt of pain as he glared at her. “You’d be wise to learn your place.”

Before anyone could even fathom what Keegan was thinking, she spat at Lux. It landed on his cheek and rolled down. The air went still as tension rose.

“You’d be wise to learn I don’t give a fuck.”

Lux yanked her head back even more and loomed over her. “Keep that same energy. I look forward to grinding you down to nothing.” He released her and walked away.

I whistled low. “You have a death wish.”

Keegan’s face was beet red as Hawke placed her on her feet. He was smiling like a loon. “That was hot.”

“You’re nuts,” Keegan said.

Hawke smiled. “Is that like a pet name for me? I should pick one for you. How do you like ‘Corpse’?”

Poor Keegan had no idea what she was facing. I pushed her into the cage before she knew what was happening. The others backed up, no doubt ready for the night’s festivities to end. They’d all be compensated for their participation, and they knew it. That was why no one put up much of a fight behind bars.
