Were they all crazy? I peeked at Rem who was jotting shit down in my notebook. She must have felt my eyes on her. She lifted her head. “Are you wondering if all of us are like that?”

I shrugged. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little curious.

“I don’t like playing in the same way as them. I’m more into making the biggest mess possible. Regardless if they stay alive or not.” Rem winked. “I like messes in everything I do.”

A shiver raced down my spine, and I broke our stare off instantly. “He’s not coming, right?”

Samson was the one to answer me. “No, Lux has other matters to attend to.”

“Why? Do you miss him?” Hawke asked.

“What the hell? No. He’s the biggest asshole out of you four.”

“You two do clash. I think it’s just going to lead to hot sex,” Rem said.

“I bet it leads to Lux getting a bloody nose,” Hawke added.

Samson grabbed his tablet. “The chances are far higher of them arguing more and Keegan doing something stupid, resulting in Lux having to punish her in front of the student body.” Samson looked up. “The usual amount?”

Both Hawke and Rem nodded. I didn’t even want to know what the usual amount was. And wait, were they seriously placing a bet on what would happen between Lux and me?

“What about yours, Corpse?” Hawke asked.

“I bet you’re all insane.” I shook my head and grabbed my phone. I caught sight of my reflection on the black screen. A smile lit up my face.Am I actually having fun with them?

“Hawke, what are you doing?”I asked as I turned in my work.

He was bouncing around me with a grin on his face. He hadn’t been this excited in a while. The only source I could think of was Keegan.

“What?”

Hawke shrugged. “You don’t care that we’re tutoring Corpse?”

I had no idea why they were, but I wouldn’t get in their way. My friends were far more important than watching the new girl flounder about as she failed every class.

“No.”

Hawke hummed as he walked backward in front of me. There was clearly something else on his mind. As the seconds ticked by, my agitation grew. I had no time for Hawke’s games. Someone was trying to move onto our territory. Not to mention the power structure was shifting. It was the perfect time to grab hold of the seats that were going to be ours.

“Hawke,” I growled. He knew he was annoying me. I forced myself to relax.

He grinned up at me. “You’re still angry.”

“Not enough to kill you.”

Hawke shrugged, walking next to me with his hands in his pockets as we descended the stairs.

“I’ll have Corpse do it. Or we can do it to each other.” A dreamy look came over his face. His eyes glazed over as he licked his lips.

My hand wrapped around his throat as I slammed Hawke against the railing. “No.” The word clawed up my throat and forced its way out.

Mischief danced in Hawke’s gaze. He didn’t bother removing my hand. Our eyes met as he opened his mouth. “Are you angry because I want her to do it or because I might kill her?”

My stomach twisted, but I had no answer. “I have yet to see what use she is for me. You and Rem will have your fun, and we will let her go.”

“And Samson,” Hawke added.

I released him and took a step back. Pushing my fingers through my short black hair, I reigned in my anger. The school was not a place to let it out. I knew Hawke did it on purpose. Even when we were children, he saw it fit to push me to my limits.
