“I have a lot of pull in this city. There isn’t anything I don’t know about.”

“Please tell me.”

“The marks on her neck didn’t match up with vampire fangs. Too small.”

“So a vampire didn’t kill her?”

“No. She was injected with something that wouldn’t show up in her system.”

“Then why has my dad been lying to me?”

“That is something you will have to ask him.”

“ I was sent to kill you, but I can’t.”

“I know. I want a verbal contract between us. You are my mate and I won’t have you trying to kill me every time I try to get close to you.” I explain and she sighs, rolling her eyes like a ten-year-old.

“I, Trinity Van Helsing, promise not to slit your throat in your sleep. Is that good enough?” she sasses and I smirk. This is going to be fun.

“Good for now,” he says, and I smile. He’s growing on me and I know I am going to fight this bond because of what I have been told all my life. That my mom was killed by a vampire. I grew up hating them and when I was old enough, I killed them out of revenge. I need to have a conversation with my father and soon.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don’t want secrets between us. If our relationship is going to work, I need to be honest with her. All her life she has been told her mom was killed by one of my kind. In all reality, it was her father. All she can do is ask why.

“I’m sorry I lied to you about why I sought you out.”

“It’s not your fault you have been lied to.”

“I have actually been having issues with my ex. I didn’t lie about that.”

“And I will deal with him. No one is putting their hands on my mate.”

“Thank you. Fate sure puts twists into things.”

“I’d never hurt you, ever. I promise you that.”

“Somehow I believe that,” she says and looks down at her hands. I can tell she is having a hard time with this, so I move over to the couch, pick her up, and sit her in my lap. I will hold her for however long she needs me to.

“So what now?”

“I’d fuck you, but I think holding you is best,” I say and hear her sniffle. I want to take it slow with her because she has been through a lot. Plus, she just found out she’s the mate of the very monster she thought killed her mother.

“I wouldn’t mind that.”

“I am taking it slow. I want you to trust me. Not all vampires are the same. I don’t drink human blood, just animal blood.”

“That’s the first I heard of that. Does it quench your thirst?”

“Yes, it is just thicker than human’s.”

“Well, have you eaten lately?”

“I need to,” I tell her and place her back on the couch before heading into the kitchen. I take a bag out of the fridge and bite into it. The blood slides down my throat and hits my stomach. I feel better already. There is a lot more in animal blood that will keep me healthier, just like with a human.

“Feel better?” she asks and I head back into the living room and see that she has stripped off her shirt and shorts. Her breasts are at least a B and perky, slender body with wide hips, and long, lean legs. She’s gorgeous, and she belongs to me.

“What are you doing?” I growl out and she smirks up at me.
