“We never got around to signing the legal agreement, if you remember. And I would’ve torn it up so it’s a moot point. You’re no longer my employee. I’m just your boyfriend.”

A bashful smile curved Sophia’s lips. “Moot? Look at you with your fancy words.”

“Really? I call myself your boyfriend, and you focus on my strange verbiage?”

Sophia lifted a shoulder and caused the sheet to dip precariously low.

My eyes ate her up. She was so fucking delicious, and she didn’t seem to realize it. “So first official date tomorrow? It’s my last day off before I have to show up on set.”

Her eyes sparkled with her excitement. “Yeah, I think I can fit that into my busy calendar.”

“Good.” I leaned forward and gave her a quick kiss. Well, it started out quick, but soon delved into tongues and moans and wandering hands.

And not long after that, the sheet separating us was on the ground as I carried Sophia back to my bed.

The next morning, I was feeling light as a feather. Two amazing orgasms inside a fabulous woman does that to a man. I all but floated through my breakfast and workout with Kevin. Life was pretty fantastic.

Right up until I spotted Jeff sitting at the kitchen counter with a scowl on his face.

“Ah shit. What did Nix do now?”

“Not Nix,” Jeff retorted, drawing my attention back to the present. He gave a huge sigh, then pulled out his tablet. After opening the web browser, he spun it around to face me, revealing the front page of a tabloid.

“Shit. Are they all like that?”

Jeff didn’t answer. He just clicked to the next tab.

“You made one minor headline out of the big three.” Jeff murmurs as he reaches for his tablet.

I waved a hand to stop him as I scrolled down to read what they’re saying about us. Clearly, Ariel’s mom sold her fake sob story to the tabloids. But at least on this one, that wasn’t the main draw. A huge but blurry picture of me and Sophia standing in the doorway of the funeral home took up most of the front page. Despite the low-quality picture, Sophia looked elegant and gorgeous in my arms as I protected her from the invading photographers.

We looked like a couple.

An idea sparked in my mind. “I guess we’re just going to have to up the ante then.”

“What does that mean?” Jeff raised his eyebrows as he took back his tablet.

“We just have to move up the timeline. Get a jeweler over here with a selection of engagement rings—five karats and up.”

Jeff whipped out his cell and started typing. “Do you want to make the selection alone or with Sophia? And do you want to leak the info or keep it confidential?”

“Just me.” I felt a twinge of guilt. We were going to be dating for real and pretending to be engaged before we’d even had a real first date. It was a clusterfuck.

And another thing she wouldn’t have any control over. Like how this whole relationship started—with her being outed inTheBabbler. That twinge of guilt I felt earlier turned into a wave. First, I didn’t give her any choice in “dating” me and now I would be pushing for us to continue the charade.
