Hours later, I was still floating on my Kingston high. He had two days of filming left, and last night, he’d invited me to the wrap party coming up this weekend. We were going official—out there for anyone and everyone. I was excited, and honestly, kinda nervous. I still had to come clean to the people in my life that I was seeing King, technically my boss, and Hollywood icon.

Holy crap.

My life was going to change in a big way. King hadn’t said it, but I knew there was a huge difference between pure speculation and printed photographic evidence when it came to media attention.

No pressure.

The thought didn’t stop me from nervously pacing upstairs that afternoon after I’d put Zoe down for her nap. Joyce had flitted off to a salon appointment, and I had no idea where Phoenix had disappeared to. So it was just me and a sleeping toddler alone in the house.

Until I heard someone swear from somewhere down the hall.

Oh god.

I didn’t know what I should do.

It couldn’t be King. He was filming tonight until eight, probably wouldn’t be home until nine. It wasn’t Joyce. Maybe Phoenix wanted to borrow King’s laptop?

I pulled out my phone and texted King.

Me:Someone’s in your office. I’m home alone with Zoe.

The second I sent it I knew he wouldn’t be able to give me any answers. He was filming. They didn’t let him have his cell on him.

I copied and pasted the message to Mak.

Me:Someone’s in King’s office. I’m home alone with Zoe. What should I do?

He replied immediately.

Mak:On my way. Barricade yourself in Zoe’s room.

I bit back nervous laughter. I had to walk by King’s office to get to Zoe’s room.

Holding my breath, I approached the open doorway to King’s office. The carpet and my careful footsteps muffled my approach.

My heart thundered in my chest.

I could do this.

Just a quick look to see who was in there, where they were in the office, then I could duck by and barricade myself in Zoe’s bedroom.

Easy peasy.

I was going to have a heart attack. Whoever was in there would be able to hear my pounding heartbeat for sure.

Oh god.

Okay.

I could do this.

The only thing between this guy and Zoe was me.

Ihadto do this.

Standing beside the open door, I held my breath as I strained to see who was standing at King’s desk.

Adam.
