“No, Lux. Not here. Not now.I want you, but not because you feel guilt that isn’t yours to claim. You ran, and you’re safe. That’s what I wanted for you. That you came and got help? Well, that’s what I needed, but I should have been able to take those assholes on my own.”

“We need more sparring practice.” Rafe’s pristine shoes reflected a clean, coiffed man, not the twisted, beautiful predator of a moment before.

I swiveled on Killian’s lap, staring up at him. “That’s not fair,” I pointed out to my boss, who stared down at us both with an air of calm I envied. “You look like you killed someone a moment ago, and now you’re all perfect.”

Killian’s chest rumbled against my back, and he pulled me closer. “He did.”

“What?” My mouth fell open as I swiveled between them, but for the life of me, I couldn’t work out if they were joking.

Rafe looked anything except the hardass I knew him to be, but something in his face shuttered. “We’re opening in ninety minutes. You two are excused for the night. We—” He shook his head. “We’ll make something up. Go.”

I shook my head.“No. You went to this effort. Give me ten and I’ll make myself presentable.”

“Me, too.” Killian shifted underneath me. “Move your tush, Little Bird.”

“No.” I slapped his chest, but it had none of the impact of a moment before.Killian raised an eyebrow with a look that told me I had thirty seconds or less to make my point. “I ran from you. Iabandonedyou. I—”

“Little Bird?”

“Yeah?”

“Shut up.”

I planted my hands on my hips and slipped a leg over his enormous thighs to straddle him. “Listen to me, you pompous, irritating, infuriating man—”

I got no farther into my list of insults. Killian’s arms wound around my body, pinning me to his chest as he kissed me, stealing my air and a solid chunk of my soul. His tongue slipped into my open mouth as he pulled me against him, offering no reprieve as he showed me how dominating he could be. My head sang with the need to crawl over him and let him show me everything I knew he could be, who we might be together.

His blood smeared over my lips. The tang of iron mixed with his personal brand of spice and sex flavored our kiss and sent me into a new realm of headspins.

Rafemade a disgusted noise behind us that we both ignored.

His clipped steps on the bar’s tiled floor meant we were left alone. Killian took the opportunity to grip my hips in an inescapable hold and grind me onto the hard, thick ridge of his engorged cock.

“But you were—”

“Shut up, Lux. Or I’ll find something to fill that hot little mouth of yours.” His hard look enhanced theentendre, my body moving to his in all the ways he guided me.

I mewled into his mouth, rocking against him. The flush that always came on whenever he touched me overheated my body, and I gasped for him with a soul-deep need when our kiss broke a second time.

His fingers traced mytingling lips, slipping inside my mouth for a second. I sucked on them without thought, watching with interest as his pupils dilated to fill his hooded gaze. I might have drowned in him, had he not kept me grounded against his body, anchoring me to him, to reality.

“Clean up. My office. Use the shower and anything you need. Clothes?” He raised an eyebrow, offering me a polite once-over that made my head swim worse.

“No,” I managed.

His gaze locked onto my chest, and he slippedhis fingers through my feathers to graze my naked skin beneath. “I’ve always wondered what you felt like beneath this,” he murmured, tracing his fingers over the tops of my breasts, arching along the curves to brush over my nipples.

My moan was loud and desperate in my own ears. Killian’s eyes hooded further, darkening with barely restrained desire.

“Go,” he growled for the second time in a few moments.

I stumbled in an attempt to find my feet as my legs tangled around his. Smooth hands caught my arms and hauled me upward until I stared at the familiar bar. A familiar body at my back lacked Killian’s bulk. The touch roughened, and I recognized my own panic as I was dragged to the edge of the bar.

“Do you haveany idea what you’re doing?” James seethed in my ear. His heart pounded against my back, and I could almost feel it breaking.

Playing with James had been just that—playing. With Killian … I was giving. Everything. All of me. There were no games, not anymore. Not after tonight.

“No,” I whispered. Myfingers rose to my collar, tracing the warmed metal.
