Claire frowned and met his eyes with curiosity.

Vince rolled his eyes, then said, “That’s where Lorelei is.”

She balked. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to penetrate it.”

Chapter thirty-two

Goddamn airheads

Clairewasforcedtosit in the backseat of the car with Paige. She didn’t want to sit with the stupid slut. Claire kept her arms folded across her chest and her lips clamped shut as she stared out of the tinted window. It had been a whirlwind ever since they left Thailand. Vince was in a rush to get out of the country and he didn’t seem to care who he upset in the process. Claire could understand why he was so upset but she didn’t really get it. As far as she was concerned, she was the one who was with him, so he should be worrying about her, not that old bag, Lorelei. She had tried to talk to him about it but he’d just ignored her. When she pushed the issue, he’d screamed at her at the top of his voice. Claire didn’t want to be shouted at again, so she kept her mouth shut and stayed in the backseat, sulking.

It wasn’t her fault this was happening. And it wasn’t her fault Paige had gotten involved in their lives. Apparently, Paige had some kind of master plan she was acting out, trying to steal Daddy away. Claire had been too stupid to see through her friend’s bullshit but Vince wasn’t. Paige’s deception hadn’t worked on him and now everything was out in the open.

Claire tried to keep her eyes focused on the blurry land outside. The worst thing she could have done was shown Paige just how torn up she was. She didn’t deserve the satisfaction of knowing she’d turned Claire’s whole life upside down. Even if she didn’t want to admit it, the betrayal was weighing heavily on Claire’s mind. Her best friend had thrown away their relationship just to get into Vince’s pants. How was that fair?

It wasn’t.

Not only that, but now Claire and Vince’s relationship was in jeopardy. Paige had driven a wedge between them and now Lorelei was in some kind of trouble. It didn’t bode well. Claire folded her arms tighter over her chest and shifted in her seat, squirming around as the leather squeaked beneath her butt.

“Don’t be disgusting,” Paige whined from across the bench seat.

“Excuse me?” Claire snapped back.

“Stop farting,” Paige said.

“Shut up, slut.”

“Ugh,” Paige groaned. “Whatever, skank.”

“Wow.” Claire rolled her eyes. “Coming from you.”

Paige scoffed but didn’t say anything else.

Claire kept her back cemented to the seat as she stared. Her Daddy and Dino were sitting in the front, both of their backs stiff and upright. Their eyes stared out the windshield, their mouths clamped shut, and their lips pressed tightly together. They were worried. They didn’t need to explain it for Claire to know. With every silent minute that passed, the heavy realization set in—this was deadly serious.

Her Daddy was weaving in and out of traffic as they sped away from the airport, rushing through the traffic as he tried to make his way home. At least, that’s where Claire assumed they were going. Any time she asked what was happening or what the plan was, she was loudly shushed.

Claire had to suppress her curiosity and try to be patient. She stared out of the window, looking at the green world slowly fading to gray, the natural world giving way to the urban landscape.

Before she knew it, they were holed up in a parking garage, surrounded by hundreds of cars. Her Daddy craned his neck around to look at the both of them.

“We’re going into the building,” he said. “All four of us.”

“Are you serious?” Paige snapped. “Why?”

Vince stared at her. “Because we need all the eyes we can get. Lorelei is being kept somewhere in the building and we need to find her.”

“Just call her,” Paige sighed. “Jesus Christ, it’s not that hard.”

Vince’s upper lip curled up. “She has been kidnapped and is being held captive,” he snapped. “If you think it was as simple as giving her a fucking call, don’t you think I would have tried that already instead of spending thousands of dollars to get us the fuck out of Thailand?”

Paige winced.

For a moment, the car was silent. Dino glanced over his shoulder, grimacing at Paige. The veins in Vince’s forehead were pulsing, threatening to burst at any moment. Claire stared at them, wondering what exactly was going through Vince’s mind. She’d never seen him like this. So angry, so animalistic. It was wrong, but something deep inside of her yearned for this animal. She wanted him to mount her, right there in the car, and show everyone else she was his property.

That was never going to happen though. Not with everything going on. She just wanted everything to go back to normal. Lorelei cooking them food and serving it up to them while Vince worshiped Claire’s young, tight body.
