“Damn insubordinate bear,” Aaron grumped back. The chuckle from the man whose hand he still held drew his attention back.

“Looks like you instill as much obedience in your Pack as I ever did with my unit.”

“Hey,” Saint protested, and the grin the two men shared had Aaron’s wolf grumbling.

Marshall looked up at him in surprise. “Are you… growling?”

Aaron let go of Marshall’s hand and took a step backward. “I apologize. My wolf is out of sorts today.”

The humor disappeared from Marshall’s face, and he paled.

“Marsh, what’s wrong?” Saint asked.

“Sick. Gonna throw up,” Marshall bit out.

“Here.” Sam thrust a bowl at Saint, who managed to turn his friend towards him just as Marshall started retching.

Aaron hovered anxiously. His wolf wanted to rip Saint’s hands off Marshall, and the need to help and protect was surging through him. He couldn’t understand his reaction. For starters, he’d never been like this, even before he’d gotten sick. He’d always had a healthy libido, but this was something more than just attraction.

Marshall trembled and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. He nodded at Saint, who removed the bowl and passed it back to Sam.

A figure appeared in the doorway, and Aaron smiled at the sight of Darcy, a young witch who worked with Sam in the clinic.

“Hi, Doc. Sorry, I couldn’t get here any quicker, but I was helping Mary set up the baby’s room, and then Grandma asked me to stop at the store for her.”

“That’s okay, Darcy,” Sam replied. He passed her the bowl. “Could you deal with this, please?”

“Of course,” she gave him a sunny smile before looking towards Aaron.

“Hi, Alpha,” she greeted, then her eyes widened. “Oh, wow!” Her voice came out in a soft whisper.

“What?” Three voices echoed the same question: Sam’s, Aaron’s, and Vaughn’s.

“What do you see, Darcy?” Vaughn asked.

“I… I’m not sure,” Darcy replied. She tilted her head as if to get a better look.

“Darcy?” Sam prompted.

Darcy put the bowl on the floor outside the room and moved around the bed to Aaron. She ran a hand down his arm, across the gap between him and Marshall, and then up Marshall’s arm. “Wow!” she whispered again, excitement shining in her eyes.

“Darcy, what is it?” Aaron asked, gripping her hand as she brought it back to his arm.

“It’s like a rope, a glowing rope that is leading from you to….” she paused, looking at Marshall. “I’m sorry, I don’t know who you are.”

Marshall gave her a small smile that did little to ease the curiosity on his face. “I’m Marshall Cavendish.”

“Oh yes, of course. The human that has the same symptoms as the Alpha.” She gave him a big smile.

“A rope? What do you mean, a rope?” Aaron asked.

“I don’t know, I can’t really explain it, but there’s a bright, glowing thread that is running between the two of you.” She turned to Sam. “I’m going to get Gran. She’ll know.”

Sam nodded his agreement. “Please do.”

“Call the twins and send them. It will be quicker. They’re out running errands, so they can pick up Alice on the way back,” Vaughn instructed.

“Oh, she’ll love that,” Darcy said with a grin. “I’ll call her and tell her to be ready.”
