Marshall nodded his understanding before asking, “So how is this soul bond thing different?”

“Rather than you and Aaron meeting and forming a bond, your souls are fated. You’re the other half of each other. The bond is already there,” Alice explained. “You need to seal the bond and complete your connection with each other.”

“Seal the bond? What do we have to do to seal the bond?” Marshall asked, but he had a feeling he knew exactly what Alice was about to say.

Eyes twinkling as she grinned at them both, Alice confirmed his suspicions. “You claim each other, of course.”

“Of course we do,” he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“What? Are you too good for our Alpha?”

A flash of reminiscence hit Marshall at Rafe’s sneered words. His head shot up, and he stared at the panther shifter across the room. “You!”

“Me? What about me? I don’t want to sleep with you!” Rafe stood tall, his hands on his hips.

Aaron growled, long and low, beside him, and Marshall reached out and put a hand on the Alpha’s arm, calming him.

“New Year’s Eve. Two years ago. Club Zero. You were there with a young guy. He bumped into me, and you got all pissy.”

Recognition dawned in Rafe’s dark blue eyes. “I remember.”

“Rafe?” Aaron questioned.

“It was Davy. Remember, he’d just turned twenty-one that Christmas, and he insisted on going to a club for New Year. He literally bumped into Marshall.”

“Where was I? I remember the night, but I don’t remember meeting Marshall.”

“You were hiding in the corner with Blake. Remember, I got the short straw and had to babysit Davy.”

“And you two didn’t meet at all?” Alice asked, leaning forward in her seat.

Marshall and Aaron looked at each other. They both shook their heads. “No. I would have remembered.” Aaron said.

“Me too,” agreed Marshall. His thoughts were swimming. “Could Davy touching me somehow activated the soul bond because you’re both from the same pack?”

“No, I don’t think so. It would have had to have been direct contact between the two of you.” Alice looked thoughtful. “I have to admit, I don’t know how close you have to actually be for your souls to recognize each other.” She looked up at Kyr. “Add that to the list of things to look for.”

Kyr nodded and jotted something onto the tablet he had with him. Marshall had been surprised when Aaron had introduced him as the librarian. Kyr was far from the typical stereotype of a bookworm. He was tall, maybe just under Marshall’s own six feet, and was finely muscled, like an athlete.

Marshall bit back a yawn. He was so tired. Aaron noticed and gave him a sympathetic smile. “Okay guys. Let’s wrap this up for the night and meet after breakfast.”

Everyone in the room stood to take their leave. Saint hitched a hand under Marshall’s elbow, drawing him to his feet.

“Come on, Marsh. You’ll feel better after a good night’s sleep.”

“Marshall, could I have a minute, please?” Aaron stood beside them. Saint raised an eyebrow, his eyes showing his concern for his best friend.

“I’ll be right behind you,” Marshall reassured him. Saint wasn’t happy, but he nodded and strode out of the room. They had a lot to discuss, not least the fact that two of the military’s top Special Forces operatives were part of the West Mill Pack.

“I won’t keep you long,” Aaron said. “I know we have a lot to discuss, and we can’t make any decisions without all the facts and information, but I just want you to know that you and Saint are welcome here. Whatever Alice and Kyr find out, we’ll work through it and find the best resolution for both of us.”

Marshall nodded. “Thanks. It’s a lot to take in. I’ve never even heard of a soul bond. I’m not sure how to react if I’m honest.”

“Actually, that’s all I ask of you. To be honest. Regardless of what happens, what we find out, please be honest with me, and I promise to be the same with you.”

“I can manage that,” Marshall said before yawning again. “Oh Goddess, I’m sorry.”

“Come on, I’ll walk you to your room, and we can fight whatever comes tomorrow together.”
