“There is more, but until I confirm it, I don’t want to go into details,” he said, hoping it would suffice. “When can you talk to Aunt Lisa?”

“I’ll call her right away and get back to you as soon as I can.”

“Thanks, Ma.”

“Is Saint behaving himself?”

Marshall grinned at the question and looked at his friend. “Oh, you know, he’s his usual charming self.”

Saint threw him an offended look, which had Marshall grinning even wider.

“Tell him he’s not too big to be grounded if he’s not.”

“Ma says she’ll ground you if you don’t behave,” Marshall told Saint gleefully.

“Hold on a sec, Murph,” Saint said into his phone before glaring at Marshall. “Put Ma on speaker,” he demanded.

Marshall tapped the audio icon and held his phone on the flat of his hand.

“Ma?”

“Yes, Saint, dear.”

“I am behaving. Any trouble I may have got in has been defendingyourson!”

“And I’m sure it was warranted,” Claire soothed. “However, I also know that you have no problem getting into trouble on your own. You’re in a strange pack’s territory, and I know you tiger shifters don’t play well with others.”

“Ma, I’m hurt,” Saint said, flashing a wink at Marshall.

Claire snorted. “I’m sure you are, Saint.” Her tone turned serious. “You look after my boy, you hear?”

“Always, Ma.”

“Hey Ma, Saint’s talking with Murph, so I’ll let you call Aunt Lisa, and I’ll hear from you soon?”

“Of course. Love you both.”

“Love you too.” Marshall signed off and hung up the call. Saint was pacing as he spoke to Murphy, their manager, and Marshall took a moment to admire the coiled power and feline grace. There had never been anything between them other than brotherly love, but Marshall could appreciate the innate sexiness of his lifelong friend.

“I’m sure you can handle it, Murph, but I’d feel happier coming back.”

Marshall threw Saint a questioning glance, which Saint returned with a shrug.

“No, it’s fine. Look, we’re only an hour away, so I can come back Thursday, stay the night, and then come back here for Marsh.”

“What’s going on?”Marshall mouthed.

“All good. I’ll see you in a couple of days.” Saint hung up the phone and dropped into the armchair opposite Marshall.

“What’s happened? Christ, we’ve only been gone twenty-four hours!”

“Relax, it’s nothing major. Jodie has called out sick, leaving Murphy short on instructors for Thursday.”

“Is she okay? How long is she going to be out for?”

“It’s just a migraine, apparently. She says she’ll be fine in a few days.”

“What about Noel or Woody?” Marshall asked, referring to their other instructors.
