As the car disappeared down the driveway, Marshall turned towards Aaron.

“So, what happens now?”

Aaron pulled him into his arms, nuzzling at his throat.

“Now, we go back to our rooms and pick up where we left off.”

Chapter 21

AaronglancedupasJosh came into his office and dropped into the chair opposite.

“How’s it going?” Josh asked cheerfully. Too cheerfully.

Aaron slowly put down his pen and leaned back in his chair.

“Everything’s good.” He paused for a beat. “Why?”

Again, Josh gave him an overly bright smile. “Do I need a reason to check in with my brother?”

“No, of course not,” Aaron replied, deciding to play along. “How’s your day going?”

“Oh, y’know, just the usual,” Josh prevaricated with a careless wave of his hand.

“Hmm. Good. Anything I can help you with?”

“Nah. All good.” Josh nodded toward Aaron’s computer. “Did Davy do the upgrade?”

“He did. Everything is running fine.”

“Okay. Good. That’s… good.” Josh’s voice petered off. “Um. So, you managed to escape from Mom, then?”

“I did. As you can see,” Aaron said, waving at his desk. “I told her I had work to catch up on.”

“And Marshall? He escaped too?”

Aaron eyed his brother. That last question was just a touch too casual. Something was definitely up.

“Yes. I believe he and Saint had work to catch up on as well.”

“Of course. Things have been so chaotic. Of course, he’d have work to do.” Josh’s gaze flitted around the office for a second before coming back to Aaron’s. “So, what are your plans for the rest of the afternoon?”

“Okay, Josh. What’s up?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve known you your whole life, Joshua Andrew West. You cannot pull off that very poor innocent act with me. Now spill, before I make you.”

Josh slumped in his seat, defeated. He gazed at Aaron as though trying to read him before sighing.

“Don’t shoot the messenger?” he asked hopefully.

“Why would I want to?” Aaron asked suspiciously. This couldn’t be good if his own brother, his second-in-command, was wary of telling him something. “Is it to do with the mating ceremony? What have Mom and Claire come up with?”

“No, nothing to do with the mating ceremony,” Josh assured him.

“Then tell me,” Aaron growled. He rarely went full Alpha on his brother, but today may be warranted.

“Um…” Josh swallowed and then said in a rush, “MarshallandRafearesparringinthegym.”
