He audibly swallowed. “He figured it out.”

“When was the last time you did anything physical with her?”

Bending over the console, he brought his face within inches of mine. “Over a year. Beginning of junior year, maybe? And it was only physical, because there were never any feelings between us.”

“I can’t be mad, right? Not with the way I am with all you guys? That would make me a hypocrite of the highest order.”

“No. No,” he said vehemently as he cupped the side of my face. “This is different.Youare different. You’re my first girlfriend. I’ve hooked up, but that’s all they were. Hook ups. No feelings, no commitments. What we have is so far and above anything in my past, it’s laughable. It’s like comparing a flower scented candle to standing in a field of wild flowers in full bloom.Completelydifferent.”

That made sense.

Hookups were different than relationships. Of course they were. I knew none of the guys were virgins. It just stung because one of Jonah’s wasn’t a faceless nameless girl in the past.

And we were friends.

My phone started to vibrate and when I glanced down, Trinity’s face took up my entire screen. “She’s facetiming me.”

Jonah pursed his lips. “Do you want to answer it? We still have ten or fifteen minutes before the second bell.”

“I do. Can I stay here and bring you your keys in between one of the classes?”

He tried to peel back the layers of my feelings with his gaze, while locking his own tells down. Then he nodded. “We’re okay?”

“Yeah, we’re okay.”

Slowly, he came closer, giving me every opportunity to stop him. When I didn’t, he pressed his lips against mine and paused, just breathing me in.

“I’ll see you in class.” He quietly got out of the car.

The call had already ended, so I called her back. Indecision warred within me. Mention it? Don’t?

I leaned toward don’t, since she was facing a meeting with her attorney. So, for the next ten minutes, I did my best to cheer her up.

Oddly, just seeing her after my conversation with Jonah made me feel a lot better. I couldn’t explain it, but it was better.

Even while it still hurt.

Icould skip the day completely, or I could just miss the midmorning class. It wasn’t even a hard decision. Even if I went to class, I’d be useless. Mr. Johnson was one hell of a printmaking teacher, but even his unconventional teaching methods wouldn’t hold my attention.

What did I do? I went back to my apartment and floated around doing some deep cleaning before it was time to pick Trinity up from school. I thought about painting my nerves away, but I had too much restless energy for me to get lost in the process. On the off chance I did lose myself, I ran the risk of missing Trinity’s appointment.

That was fine. It had been forever since I really cleaned up the place. Trinity wasn’t much of a cleaner either. With my lease up in a few months, this just gave me a head start.

I paused. I did plan to move out, but it would only work timewise if the gang were staying in Denver. Otherwise, I might have to sign the lease again.

A knock on my door startled me out of my intense cabinet wipe down. I was half disgusted by how much grime was on the cabinets. It made me look at myself in a whole new light.

Dropping the cloth on the counter, I headed to the front door. Angel stood there, holding the doorframe over his head and blowing a bubble with his gum. He popped it and smiled.

“What’s up, Thatch?”

I stepped back, holding the door open. “It’s a bad day for a visit. And what’s with the fuckboy pose? I’m not an option for you.” I teased, trying to raise my own spirit with a little joking.

“Please, like you haven’t sword crossed with my cousins.” He laughed, dropping onto the couch. It creaked under his weight as he shifted around to get comfortable.

“I actually haven’t.” I followed and sat in the chair. Glancing at the clock, I mentally calculated my time. “You have fifteen minutes, then I have to run. I have an appointment with Trinity.”

“Wait, you guys are in this group relationship and you haven’t actually had group sex?” He asked, a line appearing between his brows. Then he shook his head, his long brown hair moving with the motion. “That’s odd.”
