Astrid sighed and laid down on top of me. “Fine. Then hold me for a while.”

That, I was happy to do. Our windows had fogged up, even with the heat still on. And under the bright night sky, I made a decision I’d been teetering on. Because this was the time in our lives where we had to take control.

Our next chapter would be better than our last. I would make sure of it. For me. For Astrid. For Beck.

All of us.

When I got home, I’d make the call.

“Are you sure this was the best place for us to pick for work?” Jonah asked as he scratched his head.

“What’s wrong? Getting cold feet?” I grinned as we carried boxes over from the pallet and started organizing them on the shelves. “The parts store for their shop makes the most sense. One, we can work whatever hours we want. Two, the pay is better than the pizza shop or the tattoo parlor. I know you guys are all eighteen now, but I don’t know if they’d let you work there. I didn’t ask and Angel didn’t volunteer the answer.”

“Yeah, okay. That makes sense. We need cash, and as much as I enjoy tutoring, this pays much better.” Jonah rubbed his cheek on his shoulder and picked up another box.

“Beck jumped at the chance to work here. He doesn’t really know motorcycles, but this is his jam with his auto background. You and big brother can carpool to save funds.” Just last week, Beck had turned in his two-week notice. Brady had started to throw a fit, until Beck shared he’d be working for Devil’s Hands. That seemed to shut him right up. They were even letting him work out his two week’s notice.

Although, that probably had more to do with not losing a person and their workload than Beck. The owner also agreed to let Beck stay in the trailer for now. Although, I didn’t trust it. Hopefully, Beck had enough funds put away just in case he needed to move quickly.

“Yeah, yeah,” Jonah grumbled, pulling a smile out of me. As much as he griped about it, I could tell he loved having that connection with Beck. I couldn’t blame him. For all the shit that had happened with Trinity recently, I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

"Astrid’s also able to work the counter here. Rhys can stock too. This was the perfect place, and look, we’re able to chat while working. Much better than sweating to death, waiting on customers and living in a perpetual state of hunger because the delicious scent of wings are constantly in the air.” I hoisted another box on the shelf. Shit, that one was heavy.

“There is that,” Jonah remarked drily. “And the fact we won’t be going home smelling like bar food.”

“Hmm,” I agreed. This was all one step toward the future I wanted for myself. Especially if I decided to go on to get my master’s. I wasn’t sold on the idea yet, but staying in school was comfortable, easy. I’d need to see where we would land first, and all of us having paying jobs helped out tremendously. “So…” I started, a smirk tugging at my lips. “How was the date with Astrid last week?”

They’d both been extremely tightlipped about it. I had to say though, the pretty pink blush that had stained Astrid’s cheeks was alluring and taunting to say the least. How had that jerk gotten her to blush like that?

Rhys and I had our wicked, wicked way with her, and she hadn’t blushed.

Flushed? Yes, because that was a hell of an experience. Blushed because she was shy or embarrassed? No.

“Amazing. And I also unlocked a new phobia.” He shot me a dirty look. “Tell her, and I’ll deny it.”

I laughed. “Your secret is safe with me. You all did the helicopter ride, right? Heights?”

He scratched the top of his head after putting his box on the top shelf. But he was on the ladder, so not heights?

“No, flying. Honestly, I wouldn’t say it was a phobia, but I was really motion sick. I’d like to try it again and take medicine first. Astrid loved it. And her pictures were awesome. I’m in awe of everything she does, really.”

“Yeah, I get it. Sometimes very artistic people just seem on a different level. I’m artsy and I feel it. I mean, I look at some of the pictures she takes when I’m with her, and I see the same thing she does, but the picture just shows so much differently. The vibe she captures changes everything.”

“I agree.”

I jumped as Angel appeared around the corner of the shelf, munching on an apple. How had I not heard the crunch as he drew closer?

“Agree with what?”

“That Astrid’s a prime catch.”

I turned fully toward him, getting ready to disabuse him of the idea that there was room for another man, when he continued.

“She’s amazing, talented, beautiful, can create life changing art with her pinky toe before she clips the toenail.” He stared dreamily toward the concrete ceiling.

“Shut the fuck up,” Jonah said as he shot him the bird. I relaxed once it was clear he was razzing us.

“Is this all you guys do? Sit around and discuss the girl in your life? I really like the girl, but that’s kind of lame.” He pushed away from the metal shelving and tossed the apple core in the trashcan behind him.
