Oh yeah, our jobs.

That was good that he already had that figured out.

Even though he was smothered in happiness, Thatcher kept casting nervous glances at Beck and Jonah. Was he concerned how they would take it since this was technically their family?

If he was, he could rest easy. The joy and shock radiating off Beck and Jonah didn’t have a single dark spot. They were truly happy for him.

The potential success of Thatcher’s future was contagious. Angel had pitchers of beer brought over with several pizzas and different flavors of wings. It was a true celebratory night.

There wasn’t a bit of doubt in anyone that Thatcher wasn’t about to go on and do great things, except every once in a while I’d catch a sad glint in Trinity’s eyes. As soon as she saw me studying her, she’d brighten and smile.

It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know what was on her mind. Her court date was next week. How hard would it be to celebrate the success of someone you love when your future, or at least a potential future, was on the line?

After an hour, some of the guys went to the restroom and we rearranged our seating. The next time she had that look about her, I reached under the table and squeezed her hand, letting her know it would be okay.

There were so many different paths life could take. No matter what happened, we’d help her get through it, and we’d support her in any way we could. She’d find her own happiness.

We’d make sure of it.

Angel had given us all the morning off so we could go support Trinity. Her hearing was at ten and if we didn’t get a move on, we’d be late. “Jonah, what’s the issue?” I called through the trailer.

“I can’t find the nice shoes I wore to Thatcher’s graduation!” He yelled back.

“They’re under the kitchen table. That’s why you can’t find them.” I stopped yelling as soon as he popped out of his bedroom.

“Shit, that’s right.” He rushed to the table, pulling them out and slipping them on.

“Astrid is riding with Thatcher and Trinity. Rhys is meeting us there. I think Angel might even come.” I held the door open with my shoulder, spinning my keys around a finger as he finished getting ready.

He pulled a weird face when he straightened back up. He wore the same outfit as he had to Thatcher’s graduation. Hell, I did too for that matter. People like us, that didn’t work in the corporate world, had very little reason to dress this nice for any other occasion.

Sure, Jonah had a closet full of khakis and polos, but they weren’t slacks and a button down.

I snorted. Chances were, we’d probably wear these same outfits again this Saturday for his and Astrid’s graduation.

“Kay, let’s go.” His face was slightly pinker from bending down. All the blood must have rushed to his head.

Within two minutes the trailer was locked up, and we were backing out of our half gravel, half weeds, driveway.

“We have to be out of here by the middle of June, don’t we?” Jonah asked.

“Yeah, that was as long as they were willing to give me to find a new place once I quit.”

“And the fifteenth? Really?” He scoffed.

“Yup. You can thank Bradley for that. I think he thought it would be harder to find a place prorated for two weeks or something. It was his last dickhead move.” And then, he’d still be miserable managing a small town auto shop while I would be living the rest of my life. He’d be nothing but a bad memory.

Maybe not even that.

“Have you found anyplace?” He bit his lip as he glanced over at me.

“I’ve found a few places, but I haven’t wanted to commit to anything while our plans were up in the air. I was going to bring it up last weekend, but we were celebrating Thatcher’s new business. It didn’t seem like the right time.”

“Well,” he said as he cracked his neck. “Now’s the time or you won’t have any left.”

“I know, I know,” I grumbled, fighting a grin. He was such a dad. Responsible and pushy. That was supposed to be my role.

“All I’m saying is—”
