“Check it out,” Nikki said, opening the box.

London stared at the topper, hoping hers was good enough to pass.

As if reading her mind, Nikki said, “Don’t worry. If I didn’t have them both, I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference.”

“Cool.”

Jared poured champagne for all of them. “Congratulations on the best score yet. The auction is open and the bids are flying.”

London felt better knowing how much good they could do with all of that money. She sat on the couch and stared at the topper still sitting in the box.

Audrey plopped next to her. “You’re good for the party tomorrow. Jared and I are going, and Mia is supposed to be there with Logan.”

“Are you coming, too?” London asked Nikki.

“Hell, no. Returning to the scene of the crime? Not my style. Unless I get to rub someone’s face in my brilliance.” She sighed. “But since Moore won’t know yet that I got him, there’s no fun in that.”

“I don’t know, it might be fun for all of us to be there and know, even if he doesn’t.” She sipped her champagne. “Does Mia know we hit this one?”

Audrey eyed Jared. “She shouldn’t. She’s supposed to be out of everything. So, unless Jared said something.”

“I did not.”

“But she’ll know if we’re all there. Will Logan know?”

Audrey shrugged. “Maybe. Nothing to worry about, though.”

“If you say so.”

“Are you coming even if Ezra refuses?”

“I’m not sure. I want to see the fake topper on the tree, but if he won’t see me...”

“If he won’t see you, fuck him,” Nikki said. “If he can’t respect that we’re doing the right thing, then he doesn’t deserve you.”

London knew Nikki made an excellent point, but it didn’t make her feel better.

ChapterSixteen

Ezra couldn’t believe he was hiding in his office. Bronte had been acting weird all day. She was like a ball of nervous energy, and it annoyed the fuck out of him. It reminded him of when they were kids and she did something wrong and was trying to hide it.

Her poker face sucked.

He’d racked his brain for hours trying to figure out what she was hiding. She was supposed to have another class booked for tonight, so sitting in his office was the safest place until he had to do his required demonstration.

Rather than come get him, she sent a text. We’re ready for you.

Weird.

He opened his office door and the voices from across the shop rang familiar. London was here. Emotion balled up in his gut but he didn’t know what it was. He froze in the doorway.

Anger.

Relief.

Happiness?

He strode down the hall, got to the studio, and crossed his arms. Her back was to him and she was wearing another completely inappropriate dress for glasswork. The back was open except for the skinny straps at her shoulders. The middle dipped into a deep vee that stopped at the top of her ass. The midnight-blue material clung to her curves, much like the gold dress had, which made him remember it pooled at her feet.
