“A fair number. I know a lot of women who wear shoes like yours.”

“Maybe they have iron feet and are impenetrable to pain.”

Which reminds me that I haven’t played with bastinado in a while. I say, “Actually, parts of the feet are very sensitive to pain.”

“I believe it.”

When we make it back to the stairs to the deck, I look up to see Kimberly staring down at us. Bridget sees her, too, and remembers she’s wearing my jacket.

She takes it off and hands it to me. “Thanks.”

My hand grazes hers as I take the jacket from her. I can tell she noticed.

“I’m going to find the bathroom,” she says. “Can you let Amy know?”

“Take the hall back toward the entrance. Bathroom’s on your right,” I tell her.

Kimberly comes up to me after Bridget’s left. “Wow, you’re slumming it these days. At least she’s wearing something halfway decent, though she probably got her outfit from some discount store.”

She’s got the wrong idea about me and Bridget, but instead of refuting her assumption, I reply, “Like you’re doing any better with Mr. Three Inches?”

She scowls. “How would you know what the length of his dick is?”

“You know what his father’s like. A man who needs to pump himself up the way he does has size issues below the belt, and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

“Well, you’re wrong. He’s not three inches.”

“Good for you.”

I don’t really give a fuck about Eric’s dick size, but since Bridget wasn’t here to defend herself, I thought I’d do it for her. I stand close to Kimberly.

“He could be thirteen inches long,” I murmur into her ear. “He still can’t get you to come like I can.”

Her lips are parted, her breath uneven. Leaving her in that state, I step back and walk over to my cousin.

“Bridget went to the bathroom,” I inform Amy.

Amy looks me over. “Looks like you made it through without getting a drink all over you.”

JD laughs. “I wish I could have been there. Where’d you find her?”

“Bridget? We met in English class as freshmen. I like her.”

“Hey, I’m not knockin’ her. She’s just not as cool as you.”

Amy blushes. “I’m gonna make sure Bridget found the bathroom okay.”

The bathroom’s not hard to find, but I don’t say anything.

“Thanks for taking one for the team,” JD says to me when Amy’s gone.

“What do you mean?”

“Keeping that Bridget girl company.”

“It was nothing. And I got the bonus of making Kimberly jealous.”

JD raises his brows. “No joke? Kimberly was jealous of Amy’s friend?”
