“Nobody complains about my prices.”

“No, but I’ve heard plenty about how you try to shark even your most loyal customers.” Anger drips from her body while she slowly steps toward the counter. “I’m not Sasha. You can’t fucking fool me, Lorena.”

Lorena offered an innocent smile. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“My girl might be too trusting, but I have a few protection spells of my own.”

The cackle that split my sides alarmed both women. They wore twin expressions of shock, wide eyes sliding over me with irritation. Were they related in some way? It’s not unheard of for witches and wolves to mate on occasion. Rare but not entirely impossible.

Just probably annoying.

“Sorry,” I said with a cough. “I, uh, remembered a joke Donovan told me.”

Charlotte drilled her critical gaze into my body. “Would younot?”

“I didn’t do anything.”

“You’re just being a complete—”

I smirked. “Ding dong?”

“Adam, I swear to thegods…”

“You’re not going to punish me. You like it too much when I do it to you.”

Her nostrils flared as she clenched her fists. “Adam…”

“Wow, I didn’t think wolves could turn into cherries.”

I chuckled while watching her aggravation double. Was I inviting too much of her ire? Yeah, but it was too cute. And seeing that adorable fuming frown did something to me I didn’t want to admit.

“Adam,” she stated firmly. “This is kind of important.”

I saluted her. “You got it, sweetheart. Not a word from the mutt. None at all.” I hummed while zipping my lips. “Not apeep.”

Lorena glowed with amusement while resting her hands on the counter. “I might have some muzzles for sale in the back.”

Charlotte looked a littletoointerested in that, so I stepped in with a friendly smile. “We’re just joking, Lorena. We need to locate someone. I’m sure it’s an easy spell for you to whip up.” I paused for a moment and then added, “Probably shouldn’t taste bad either, right?”

“Ah, you’ve lost someone during your travels, is that it?” She posed this inquiry with a mystical tone while wiggling her fingers, ignoring my jab. “I’m sure I couldwhipsomething up.”

Now I understood why Charlotte had gone in with guns blazing.

I groaned with exasperation and reached into my pocket. “How much?”

“Five hundred for the location spell. Something of value for the information.”

“Excuse me?”

Charlotte whipped off her necklace and dropped it on the counter. “There. Something of value.”

“Cherry, that’s not even real silver. It’s probably like tarnished surgical steel or—”

“She doesn’t mean monetary value,” Charlotte snapped. “She means something of personal value.”

Glancing between the two women revealed a stare-off, unlike anything I’d ever witnessed. Any longer and the two might end up wrestling.

And as much as my inner wolf enjoyed the idea of hot babes rolling around in gelatin, it felt like this would actually be a fight to the death.
