I flushed red while playing with my pancake. “Oh, I didn’t realize…”

“Eat up, cherry. You need your strength.”

I shook my head when he winked. We finished eating and cleaned up the kitchen, Henry joining us in time to do the dishes. Soap soaked the counter by the time we were done. Henry grabbed a rag and helped his father dry everything down, inspiring me to step back and watch them.

This is my life now, I thought contentedly. When did this become my life?

“Lottie?” Adam called. “You okay over there?”

I nodded. “Yeah, I think I’m still sleepy.”

“That means it’s time for a quick walk to Donnie’s.”

Henry bounced his way to the door. While we wandered outside, I felt my heart leap into my throat. The streets teemed with life, wolf pups and adults wandering around doing their usual business. It didn’t seem like a place where a vampire attack had occurred.

This pack is resilient, I thought while holding Henry’s hand. They’re stronger because they work together. Like us.

Once Henry was safe with Donovan, I returned to the cabin with Adam, feeling how quiet and alone we were in the cabin.

“So,” Adam said while tugging me toward the bedroom. “How does it feel to be part of an official family?”

“I think an official family requires marriage, doesn’t it?”

He shrugged as he closed the door behind us. “We can be unconventional. Or are you asking me to propose to you?”

Something flashed in his eyes. And then, it was gone. Had I seen anything at all or was that just a trick of the light? Mischief danced on his features regardless of what I had witnessed. He was up to something. And I was going to figure it out.

“Adam?” I asked. “What are you thinking?”

His lips quirked into a devious grin. Gods, that meant trouble, didn’t it?

But I couldn’t help mirroring his smile.

“I was thinking,” he said while unraveling the cardigan from my shoulders. He traced the flesh of my neck where the mark sat. “You said I could give you a matching mark on the other side of your neck, right?”

“You’ve said that before. But we have to be in the middle of sex for it to—” Realization smacked my face. “Oh, I see where this is going.”

He chuckled while hoisting me into his arms. “Don’t act so innocent. You were thinking the same thing.”

I flushed all over. How could he tell?

He nipped my earlobe and whispered, “I felt your pussy twitch, cherry.”

“Adam, shut up.”

“You know the best way to do that is…”

A gasp split the air between us when he pinned me to the wall. The dresser rattled next to us from the movement, picture frames shuddered on the surface of the wood. I clutched his back and tightened my legs around him as he bucked between my legs.

Every second spent without him came to mind. All the minutes wasted away from him turned me into a feral wolf, one that needed desperately to mate.

And this time, I wanted to mate for life.

“I know,” I groaned while scraping my mouth over his lips. “Kiss you.”

He chuckled. “She remembers.”

“I remember everything.”
