Loan Dolphin is one of our top competitors and an old crone in the small business loan field.

“That’s really nice, but we are still in the awareness stage and already pulling in so many entrepreneurs. When we get to the influencing stage, you’ll be shocked at…”

I don’t realize I’m walking half-backward until the side of my face slams into something rock-hard.

Electricity shoots throughout my entire body even before I open my eyes and stare at the face. Harrison’s beach-air scent haunts me in dreams now. My entire body breaks out in goosebumps as our skin merges and I hate just how quickly I become heady. All my nerve endings are at alert and looking up into his face, I see he’s having the exact same reaction.

And our employees are watching.

I try to get away from him, but I don’t calculate my moves correctly. I stumble, nearly slamming backward into the half-open conference room door.

Harrison is faster than me, thankfully. Reaching out at the speed of light, he catches me, stabilizing me. I can’t help but stare into his eyes. I don’t care that people are watching. This man is so handsome and big and strong, I want to melt in his arms. It kind of scares me how much I’m pining for this man I can’t have.

Harrison’s eyes are hooded in a warm glow, and suddenly, he unhands me.

Tyler and Janice are at my side in a minute.

“Are you okay?”

“Are you hurt?”

Sweetly shooing them away, I take my fallen files from Tyler. After they leave, I don’t know if I should stay or walk away from Harrison.

“Hello, Charlee,” Harrison says and I get pissed all over again. How can his voice still bother me this much? I should be over it by now.

“Hello, Harrison.”

“How’s it going? I’m not sure we’ve crossed paths in the past couple of days,” Harrison says. The air is dense with the usual awkwardness, and I hate that he is so composed. He doesn’t seem flustered or bothered by my presence. Maybe he has forgotten all about me. Maybe it’s all in my head now.

“Uh, pretty great.”

Harrison starts to ask about a few of our on-going campaign projects. I’m trying to act normal as I respond, but inside, my belly is going up in flames.

“This week has been hugely successful with our company’s own marketing. It’s been really productive. Our social media ads and industry-specific influencers are pulling so much weight. We also have personalized email outreach going out by the dozens daily, with several solid responses coming back. We’re really getting a lot of public attention now. A news station downtown even requested for an interview with our CEO. I was gonna tell you.”

I’m rambling and my speech sounds like it was rehearsed.

Harrison is impressed with the information, nonetheless. “That’s really incredible,” he said. “Just one week and we’re already pulling so much energy…”

He continues speaking, but I’m no longer listening.

The way they move, the way they jam softly and open again. How can someone be so perfect that even his lips are meticulously sculpted? Those lips did incredible things to my body a week ago, and sometimes, I don’t believe it was all real. I have to force myself to accept that I wasn’t dreaming. The lips had worshipped my boobs, kissed every inch of my skin, and drawn wave after wave of spasms from that sweet spot between my legs and…

“So, can you do it tomorrow?”

My mind snaps back to earth with a loud bang and I can feel my face heating up with embarrassment. Harrison has been speaking and I’ve not been listening. He’s asking me something and I’m not sure what.

“Uh, sorry, I didn’t catch that. What did you say?” I ask, blinking rapidly to keep from focusing on his face.

Harrison stares at me intently for a long moment, and then a smile draws up the corner of his mouth. My face burns even hotter.

“I was asking if you’d be free to join my father, my brother Roscoe, and me for a meeting at the end of the week. I’d like for us to brief them bi-weekly on all crucial updates and general progress. We’ll also be joined by Wade Kellerman, our CFO.”

I start nodding even before he finishes his sentence.

“Yeah, sure thing. I’ll definitely be there. Thanks for letting me know.”

He stares at me again in that funny way for the briefest moment and then he spins on his heels and walks toward the staircase. As soon as he leaves, my stomach drops down with a bang.
