This is some major piece of real estate.

The trophy wife lifestyle would have perfectly suited Tess if she could ever care about that sort of thing. She just wants to love her husband and live in her perfect bubble of peace and endless joy.

“Charlee, I made that Peruvian lasagna you love so much,” Tessa says, setting down a dish on the table. Her chefs have already set the table but she has a few more surprises up her sleeve.

“Peruvian Lasagna? Since when is lasagna a Peruvian dish?” Roscoe asks, heaving his giant frame onto a seat.

“You won’t understand, babe. It’s a special recipe,” Tess says and settles beside him, touching his face slightly. They share a quick kiss and I’m just staring at them, wondering if this will ever be me.

“I thought you said this was a small dinner. Why’s there enough food here to feed an entire legion?”

Tess laughs and rocks her head from side to side.

“She doesn’t know how to plan according to scale. She either under-sets or over-plans. Choose your poison,” Roscoe says and moves just in time as Tess smacks him.

I love and envy how they are so in sync with each other.

When Roscoe is with Tess, he forgets he’s a top-dog CEO and powerful businessman changing the world in his own way. He morphs into a teenage boy enjoying the love of his life. The passion they have for each other is amazing to watch.

We’re halfway into dinner when Roscoe’s phone starts ringing. It’s work.

“Babe, I thought we agreed no work calls during meals,” Tess whines, grabbing her husband’s arm as he gets up from the table.

“Baby, I’m so sorry. But this is really important. Just give me a minute.” Planting a kiss on her lips, Roscoe grabs his phone and bolts out of the room.

Tess heaves a sigh of annoyance and continues with her food.

Humming low in my throat, my face breaks into a mischievous smile as I cut my chicken strips.

“What?” Tess asks, eyeing me with feigned scorn.

“Girl, you literally can’t stand to be away from that man for a second. I wonder if you both ever take any breaks from… you know,” I tease and Tess rolls her eyes, sprinkling her fingers at me. I laugh out loud, sprinkling my fingers right back.

“Girl, you’re such a Prude Alice. You can’t even say the word. It’s sex. S-E-X. Sex. That’s what adults in love with each other do. I take it you know how sex is done, huh? It’s not just by writing about it in novels. You need to have it done to you to get the gist.” Tess is teasing my virginity as she always does, but it hits differently this time.

Differently, because I’m no longer a virgin. Even crazier, because I’ve given it to her own brother-in-law.

Tess notices the look on my face and her expression changes.

“Hey, did I say something wrong? You know I’m just joking right?”

Exhaling tiredly, I drop my cutleries onto the plate. “No, Tess. It’s not you.”

A moment of hesitation. A second of doubt.

Should I tell her or should I keep it to myself?

My mind made up, I go all in. “Tess, girl, this might come as a shock but I really want to tell you. Nod your head twice if you promise not to freak out.”

Tess nods curtly twice, dropping her cutleries as well.

Inhaling deeply, I shut my eyes and let it out in a very hushed tone. “Harrison and I slept together. We didn’t just fool around that night of the party. We had real sex. Like actual sex. And then we did it a second time at the office. Girl, I know I messed up but… that’s my reality now.”

Even though she promised not to, Tess ends up freaking out quietly.

I watch as the blood drains from her face and it goes white, her eyes popping out of her head.

Tess takes her time to weigh her options before she speaks. She can’t exactly judge me for sleeping with my boss. Heck, she’s straight-up married to her own boss. And then she’s the one who left me in Harrison’s grasp that night. I’m not trying to blame her, but I wonder what she’ll say.
