She placed her hand on his chest. She angled her face toward him, searching his eyes, hoping he could read the exuberance in hers. “But I can. I tried to convince Clayton that he was the right one, but he saw the truth. I can’t hide it anymore, Hunter.”

“You signed a contract. You agreed to pick one of your bachelors.”

“I agreed to pick someone and date them for a year. I don’t think it specifies that it has to be one of the contestants. If it does, why not enter yourself?”

Hunter turned away from her. He rested a hand on his hip within the opening of his suit jacket. “I can’t do that.”

“Why not?”

His tone elevated. “I own the show, Snow. How would that look?”

“Who cares?” she said with a little laugh.

“People will care. I’ll lose my credibility. We’ll never be able to have another Heartthrob.”

“I think you won’t be able to anyway after these threats.” Her words were solemn. It was true. He would be hard-pressed to find another bachelorette willing to appear after the threats that had lambasted Snow this season. “I’m choosing you,” she said in a tone that would brook no arguments.

“Snow,” he said, sounding pained.

She slipped her hands up around his neck. “You might as well accept it.”

Hunter released a groan and then surrendered. His hands captured her face, and their mouths collided. She’d kissed several of her other bachelors, but this was the kiss she’d been waiting for. It stole her breath and set her lungs on fire and brought tears to her eyes all at once.

She tiptoed up, wrapped her hand around the back of his head, keeping him in place while his lips crushed and molded with hers. His head angled, and she followed, drinking in every one of his movements.

The way his hands settled at her waist and explored her spine. The way his lip tantalized hers. The way every one of her nerve endings fired. The kiss lingered, changing pace, turning explorative and conversant. It threatened to pick up speed again, to transport them, and it took all of Snow’s self-control to pry herself away.

“I think that was a yes,” she said, breathing hard.

“You’re crazy, Snow Hendricks,” Hunter said, taking her face in his hands and pressing another enduring kiss to her lips before dragging himself free. His mouth pulled away slowly, extending the kiss as long as he could. “My kind of crazy.”

“Please tell me that’s not something you say to all your clients.”

“I’ve never kissed a client before,” he said, stroking her cheek.

The glowing snake in her stomach slithered. “Really? Is that true?”

“It’s true. You’re the first client I’ve taken a personal interest in. Probably not the best idea on my part, but I can’t seem to help myself when I’m around you.”

Beside Hunter, Hector cleared his throat. “Sorry for the interruption, but—”

“Thanks, Hector,” Hunter said, slipping his hands around Snow’s and guiding them from his neck and to his lips instead. He kissed the tips of her fingers. “He’s right. We need to make our way to the studio. I need to tell Eloise.”

“Amira is the one who needs to know,” Snow said, beaming at him. “Go through her. There’s a chance she won’t say anything. Have Oswald make you a contestant.”

He shook his head, but she persisted. “I’m following my heart, Hunter. Just like Clay said I should.”

“I can’t believe he told you to pick me.”

“He said they’ve all noticed how I look at you. How you look at me. We can’t fight what’s right in front of everyone. Say yes. Be my bachelor.”

“You know that contradicts the definition of that word completely, right?”

“Shut up and kiss me already.”

Hunter laughed and brought his hands around her. He leaned forward, his mouth atoms away from hers and stealing all of her thoughts in the process. Everywhere his body touched hers made her come to life. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him back, meeting his fervor with her own. No matter what happened tonight, she had Hunter. They would see it through together. The threatener could bring whatever they had planned, but they would be ready.
