He shrugged. “I work long hours and have a lot going on. I don’t really have time for that sort of thing. Sometimes I meet up with friends at the game.”

“The Titans,” she said. “You said you have money on the game. You bet on them or something?”

“I have a financial interest in the team,” he said.

No, he didn’t bet. He sponsored and invested. His business sponsored several sports teams, he owned some land, and he had a full portfolio of stocks. That was in addition to the money he made on his own business.

“So you get seats any time?” she asked.

“Yes. I prefer the suite, though.”

He realized after the words were out just how snobby they sounded.I prefer the suite. All that was missing was the uptight rich-person voice.

“Mostly because it has a private restroom,” he quickly added. “I don’t know if you’ve ever waited in line for a restroom at a game before...”

It was his pathetic attempt to make it better, but he’d somehow gone in a bad direction. Discussing public restrooms was hardly a way to romance a woman.

But he wasn’t trying to romance her. He had to keep reminding himself that.

“There’s a limited number of residential buildings in a half-mile radius of where you live,” she said. At least one of them was all business here. “When you consider how few of them come available on a weekly basis…”

“Everyone loves a challenge.” He shrugged.

Was he being a jerk? The last thing he wanted was to be a jerk. But he was fine staying in his current condo. Some singer wanted to take it over so his nanny would have a comfortable place to raise his dog… Well, all of that could be filed in the not-my-problem category.

The truth was, he was just doing this to spend more time around Kimmie. He felt bad about that, but if she found him a great place, he’d take it. He just doubted very seriously that she would.

Kimmie pulled out her phone. “Around Fourth and Fifth Avenues, but not as far down as Printers Alley and definitely not riverfront.”

“Exactly.”

She sighed. “I’ll put together some properties and show you around. When do you have free time?”

He smiled. She had confidence she’d find something that quickly. Impressive.

“My schedule’s pretty flexible.” He shrugged. “Why don’t you tee up three or four and give me a call? I’ll work you in.”

The server arrived with their food. Kimmie was having scrambled eggs and fruit, while he was enjoying a heaping plate of eggs, bacon…the works.

“How exactly did you get mixed up with this country music dude?” Jesse asked.

She paused in chewing, looking up at him. It was clear immediately that he’d put a personal spin on what was probably only a professional relationship. He just wanted to know what he was getting intoifhe let this become more than business.

“I looked him up,” Jesse said. “Impressive career.”

That was an understatement. The guy sold out arenas all over the country. The coverage of his every move was unbelievable, and half of it was speculation over whom he might be dating.

Jesse was just trying to figure out if the beauty seated across from him might be that “whom.”

Kimmie set her fork down and dabbed at her mouth with her napkin. “His dog nanny went to high school with me. We connected on social media a while back, and she knows I’m in real estate and that I really know the downtown condo market. She told me the size she wants and specifically mentioned your building. I have no idea why.”

The dog nanny again. The concept fascinated him, but he decided to let it drop. He also decided to skip reminding her that the building didn’t allow pets. Country music superstars could probably bend whatever rules they wanted to bend.

“It’s a nice building. The history, combined with the amenities? You can’t beat that. Plus, it’s right in the heart of Nashville daylife.”

“Daylife?” she asked. There was a hint of laughter in her voice.

“That’s what we’ll call it.” He shrugged. “I’m not into the nightlife, but I love being part of the action during the day. Just walking down the street, staying out of the way of scooters… I sometimes work out of a coffee shop just to get out.”
