“I like a guy with a sense of humor,” she continued. “Someone who has his own thing going on but still likes to spend time with me. Looks...usually dark hair and a nice smile. That’s my type.”

Jesse frowned. “But you said you plan to go against that.”

“Oh, no, not that part of it. The part where I’m attracted to guys who have no plans to settle down ever. I don’t have time for that nonsense.”

“So you’re ready to settle down?” He dared to ask that question just as the server returned with the check to sign. But even after the server had made her exit, Kimmie didn’t answer. She busied herself with signing the check, then pulled her phone out.

“Oh, my.” Kimmie positioned the phone in front of her for a better look at the screen. “I have a one o’clock in Franklin. Can we get back?”

He nodded and stood. But as he drove her back to her office, he couldn’t help but notice how cleverly she’d avoided answering his question.

Where are you?

The text from Ella came just as Kimmie stopped to get her favorite limeade at a drive-thru. She pulled into a parking space and pulled her phone off the mount.

On my way back, she typed. What’s up?

A couple of seconds passed with no response. But then the phone rang, scaring Kimmie so much, she almost dropped it.

“Texting takes too long,” Ella said when Kimmie answered. “You still helping that rich dude find a place?”

The question made Kimmie’s heart do a little jump. Probably because she knew when Ella said “that rich dude,” she was referring to Jesse Fulton. And the memory of sitting across from Jesse that morning was still pretty fresh.

“Yep,” Kimmie said. “I was just headed back to the office to do some research.”

“Don’t.”

Kimmie frowned and backed out of her parking space. May as well start heading back toward Nashville. Wherever she was going, it was in that direction.

“I found the perfect place,” Ella said. “Call your dude and tell him to meet you at Destination 401.”

“There aren’t any available units at 401,” Kimmie said. “I know that place.”

Maybe she should just go home. She could do her research from there. She kind of wanted to relax and figure out her next steps. If she went back to the office, she’d have to describe her breakfast date to her friend. Being able to keep it in her head was important to her right now.

“Just came available,” Ella said. “I’m telling you. It’s perfect. I can call your dude if you’re driving…”

“No, I’ll handle it.”

“Great. Sending you the information now.”

“Ella?” Kimmie rushed to say before the call disconnected.

“Yeah?”

“Thank you.”

There was no way she could get Jesse to drop everything and rush off to look at a condo. Not right now. She fully expected him to turn her down but offer to meet her in a few hours or something. So when he answered on the second ring, she was a little shocked.

“Are you busy?” she asked, feeling uncontrollably nervous.

“Nope. Well, yeah, but I can talk.”

Not a good sign. She needed more than a phone conversation. She needed to show him this condo, watch him fall madly in love with it, and have the Lyric Tower unit on the market by the weekend.

She took a deep breath and plunged in. “A condo at Destination 401 just went on the market. Familiar?”
