"And are you alone right now?"

"I'm glad to hear that," Adam murmured, "since we'll be proceeding with the rest of your consultation tonight." Or so it had been decided, as SFI also provided participants with a script that they were contractually obliged to follow.
"I reviewed your files last night."
"You have my...files?"
The surprise in her voice was genuine, and Adam realized he had been wrong to assume SFI would provide both of them with the same set of information. "It says in your file that you preferred to start with a phone consultation with your doctor—-"

But that was clearly a lie, since he could tell by the sound of her voice that all of this was news to her.
"I could read the rest of your file if you wish," Adam offered politely. "It should give us a chance to determine whether all the data I have remains...applicable."
"I would like that, yes."
The relief in her voice was audible, but Adam had a feeling that was to be short-lived, considering what he had to say next.
"According to your file, you complained about swelling and discomfort—-"
