“Oh, she is still around; she’s just pretending to be civilized.”

We settle on scallops and beef rib-eye for our starter and entree and not really focus on the rest.

“I miss talking to you, you know, the way we used to.” He tells me.

“Things change, Denton, especially when you get married. I felt like I lost my best friend when you left.”

“You never lost me.” He takes my hand and places a kiss on it.

“Dent, how did we get so unsatisfied with our lives? I mean, the way I feel about you, it scares me. I just feel like we’re making the same mistakes our own parents made.”

He looks into my eyes, and I know that it's a hard question to answer. The server arrives and refills our wine glasses. “Can we not talk about the heavy stuff? Can I enjoy the fact that I have you all to myself in New York City?”

I smile. “Yeah, we can do that.”

After dinner, we take a walk, and he tells me about all the things I should try to see this week.

“I don’t know if I’ll have the time. I have a tight schedule.” I sigh.

“Make the time.” He kisses my nose. “Life is too short to spend it working hard. It’s meant to be lived too.”

I kiss his cheek. “I think I like you very much.”

“I think I like you too.”

I wake up to Denton’s tongue thrusting in and out of me, his fingers twisting my nipples. The soft light of dawn slips through the curtains. I should have put the blinds down, but I was a bit preoccupied last night. His hands spread my thighs open.

“That feels good.”

He is a beast devouring his prey, nipping and biting me. He kisses his way up my body and rams into me. He pulls out then repeats the motion. He starts to thrust in faster and harder, balancing on his arms, his hips circling from time to time.

“You do things to me, Bre.” His head is thrown back as he continues to fuck me with such force, my body shudders as I climax. He follows soon after, crying out my name, growling his release.

We lie staring at each other after. We know there is no turning back from what we have done here. “I have to leave the day after tomorrow,” He tells me. “I can extend my trip if you want me to.”

I shake my head. “The last thing we need are questions, Dent.”

He runs circles over my back. His hands make their way down to my ass. I shudder when he opens my ass cheeks. “Don’t,” I tell him.

“You’re my whore Bre, I get to fuck you the way I want, right?” I recall the words I said to him last night. Why is it so easy to lose yourself when you’re doing something wrong?

“Not like that. I’ve never.”

“It’ll be another first for us then.” He kisses me, rubbing his hands over my soft skin. “But we never have to try anything you don’t want to.”

I spend the day working with Ally, and she is absolutely brilliant. She has that same rasp Jess has, and I love her tone. I think about Denton and find myself smiling whenever he texts. He’s pitching to a client that could be a significant asset to his company, and he’s sexting me.

“You’re in love, aren’t you?” She smirks at me from across the room.

“Well, I have been married for three years.” I laugh.

“It isn’t him, though,” she says casually and continues to tune her guitar. “Those kinds of smiles are for first loves, first times, new loves.” She looks up at me.

I bite my lip but say nothing. We don’t talk about it anymore; we switch back to pro mode.

When I reach my hotel room, I shower and have no idea what to do with myself while I wait for Denton. I am about to walk outside when my phone rings.

“Hey,” I answer.
