Marcus took a slow sip of his coffee. I could tell that, while he was trying to work through his anger, he was still good and steamed.

“Well, as much as I hate to think of it that way,” I said, “Those are good tools to have in our arsenal. If Seth manages to get us into the courtroom, they’ll go a long way in making sure he doesn’t have a chance of getting Henry and Hattie.”

“True,” Marcus said. “There’s also putting his ass in the dirt – that’d work too.”

We laughed at the idea, knowing that, while tempting, it was only an idea.

“Alright,” I said. “First step is we get legal shit in order. Adam, you mind getting in touch with our lawyer, giving him the rundown of what’s happening?”

“Will do, big brother,” he said.

That was one part taken care of. Knowing Seth was still in town, however, didn’t sit well with me.

“We need to keep tabs on the prick,” I said. “Make sure we know where he is, what he’s up to.”

“I’d be happy to do it,” Marcus said. “I know a few things about recon.”

Adam shook his head. “Not a good idea. If Seth finds out that we’re tailing him, he could file harassment charges.”

“Right,” Tyler said. “They got a word for guys who follow people around like that – stalkers. And last I checked it isn’t legal.”

Marcus nodded. He didn’t like it but heard the wisdom in their words.

“Well, then we ought to hire a PI,” he said. “I’m with you, Mac – I want to know what he’s up to. If he’s planning something, we need to hear about it as soon as possible.”

“A PI would be great,” I agreed. “Marcus, you want to take care of that?”

“Got it.”

There was more to think about. At that moment, however, I had major tension inside of me I knew only a workout would untangle.

“I’m going to hit the gym,” I said. “Tyler, let’s talk after.”

“Sounds good.”

With that, the meeting was over. I headed up to my room to get changed into some shorts and sneakers and a sleeveless shirt, then went down to the basement gym. The space was huge, filled with all the weights and cardio equipment that four men who wanted to stay on top of their game needed.

Normally, I’d start with a quick mile run, then move into some weight training. That morning however, I was angry. I beelined for the punching bag, turning on the stereo system as I made my way over to it. Pantera’sCowboys from Hellblasting, I threw on some gloves and began wailing on the bag, beating it so hard I thought I might break it wide open.

I pretended it was Seth, of course, his smirking, gaunt face shattering into nothing under a barrage of blows. Working over his face in the real world would land my ass in jail, so this was the closest I was going to get.

After about ten minutes, I felt good and worn out, my head a bit clearer.

“Don’t need two guesses to know whose face you were imagining on that thing.”

I turned, seeing Tyler at the entrance to the gym, a small curl of a smile on his face.

“Yeah. Not exactly a psychological puzzle.”

He came over, the smile fading and a tinge of worry replacing it. Something was on his mind.

“What’s up?” I asked, opening my water and taking a swig.

“I wanted to say I’m sorry. It wasn’t cool to keep that kind of information from you, even if we had our reasons.”

I held the bottle of water to my head, letting the cool run through me.

“Thanks. You did what you believed needed to be done. Not to mention, you did what Kristen asked.”
