“Yeah, okay,” she admitted.

“Stay with me. Don’t leave. I’d fucking lose my shit if something happened, and I wasn’t there to protect you and Sophie.”

A sigh escaped her lips. “Okay, Mack.”

“Seal that promise with a kiss, my sweet girl.”

She lifted her chin, molding her mouth to mine.

I lost myself in the warmth of her lips, but I didn’t forget the plan. Charlotte was staying put, even if I had to strap her to my bed to do it.

Chapter 10 Charlotte

Something was goingon. I heard a commotion outside, and I left Sophie in the room, telling her to lock the door and stay put.

“Don’t let anyone in unless it’s Mack. Pete, Rae, R.J., or Aunt Cara. Okay?”

“Okay, mommy.”

Even if she was a little old for that, she still called me mommy sometimes. I adored it.

My feet picked up speed as I ran down the hall, taking the stairs fast before I walked into the common room. I recognized most of the Ravage Riders MC members loading guns and tossing ammo to one another, oblivious to the chaos ensuing around them. Gunfire erupted from outside and I ducked, suddenly frightened by the knowledge that bullets were being shot into the Ravagers clubhouse.

Sophie!

I didn’t see Mack and it wouldn’t have mattered. All I thought about was getting my daughter out of here before someone shot her or Breaker showed up to take her from me.

No friggin’ way.

I reached the stairs, climbing halfway up when an explosion broke apart the section of wall a few feet above where I stood. The stairs crumbled and I went with them, falling into the massive pile of rubble. Something sharp lacerated my left thigh and I screamed, holding onto the wound as it began to trickle bright red blood.

A pain-filled groan left my lips as I struggled to sit up, holding the side of my head with my other hand. My palm pulled away, stained crimson with more of my blood.

I didn’t have time to worry about being injured. My daughter was all alone in our room!

“Help!” I screamed, glancing around to find the hall a busted mess. Part of the bar was visible through the rubble, and I heard voices shouting.
