ChapterFive

CYBURN

Ididn't think that Carmela could tell just how frequently I kept staring at her. If shewasaware, she didn't show it or say anything about it. However, wehadbeen doing some mutual flirting back and forth, and that was a little exciting for me, I had to admit.

I was wildly attracted to her. She was so petite and cute. Everything about her was a massive turn on for me, including her slender figure. I loved her tiny frame. She was a lot smaller than the Alesian women I knew, but in a good way. She was unlike anyone I had ever been attracted to.

There was something resilient about her spirit. I could tell that she had a fighter drive in her that was powerful and wanted to be noticed and heard.

It gave me hope for the future, too. I felt better just by simply being around her, even if I couldn't explain where all these intense feelings were coming from out of nowhere. It was almost like love at first sight, although I knew that was crazy to even entertain the idea of something like that even beingreal.

Call it what you wanted, but I was in some kind of lust trench with Carmela, but I was willing to bury myself in it completely if it meant I could continue riding on this weird, euphoric high with the way she made me feel.

Her wide green eyes and her sweet face were so appealing to me. I couldn't stop staring at her, no matter how hard I tried to convince myself otherwise. She was extremely distracting to me, but I was powered by that longing, and I didn't mind it.

Her shoulder length brown hair wasn't any extra tamed than her personality was, but it suited her in an adorable way.

Whenever I said something to her, and our eyes met, Carmela would coyly look away and her cheeks would turn pink. She would smile, bat her eyes at me with more shyness, and give me an evasive smile that drove me crazy in a good way.

"Listen," I told her as soon as we got a few steps ahead in our stride from Nix.

Nix didn't seem to care. He was in his own element, zoned in to killing any of the 'bad guys' that might be unfortunate enough to stumble into our path along the way.

"Yeah?" Carmela eyed me with mischievous curiosity. "What's going on?"

I leaned in closer to her and briefly placed my hand on the small of her back. I could tell that she liked it by the way she turned that rosy pink again and coyly flickered her gaze away from me.

She couldn't help herself, though. She glanced at me again only a second later, with that gleam of eagerness flickering in her wide green eyes.

She tucked her wild brown hair behind her right ear. Her neck was slender and elegant, exposed, and delicious looking. It was so soft and smooth, kissable in the most sensational way.

I'd give anything to shower her delicate skin with tender kisses, regardless of this stressful situation we were in. She was ripe for the taking. I viewed her as more than a conquest, however. I wanted to respect her and her body because I respectedherin general.

I felt like we were in a race against time, trying to make it to the control room before all hell broke loose and hundreds of other robot spawns started attacking us from all angles. We had to abort their mission before these Belic creatures revved up their revenge to diabolical elimination proportions.

"Thanks for going along with what I said back there," I told her. I glanced over at Nix. He still wasn't paying us a lick of attention, which was good. "We don't really know each other yet, but your uninhibited trust is going a long way."

Carmela beamed. Her smile was as big as her gorgeous eyes. "Don't worry about it. Anything is better than being strapped down to a cold, metal table, naked and being probed by intrusive aliens." She briefly shuddered at the memory.

I took a moment to envision Carmela naked without making it seem too obvious about what I was doing. "You're a smart woman."

"Maybe." Carmela shrugged, giving me a humble smile laced with a little bit of gratitude. "Or maybe it's just a strong will to live."

I laughed. "I think weallare born with that notion, no matterwhatrace we are."

"Yeah, tell that to the Cyborgs who all but panicked when those alarms went blaring through the room," Carmela said with an eye roll and then a grin. "You should have seen them. It was great to see them scattering around like a bunch of fools. They all but forgot about me. I seriously couldn't believe it. I guess I should be thankful for the tiny miracles whenever they happen."

"Not too tiny if you ask me," I said. "Not if your life was depending on it at the time."

Carmela sighed and frowned, appearing to contemplate. "Yeah. I suppose you're right about that."

"They are programmed for disaster, though, these ruthless Belic's," I said with a sobering glance at Carmela. "And programmed to know how to eliminate an enemy threat."

Carmela cocked her ray gun and put on a brave and stoic front. "Good thing I am trained too."

She was so cute. I laughed again, but it was because I found her adorable, and not like I was laughing at her expense.

"I'm glad you feel confident. We need confident."
