He? Who the hell is this 'he' anyway?

"That's why he is watching us so closely," the other cyborg whispered, barely audible. It was clear they were trying not to let anyone else hear them, butIdid.

"She will make excellent spare parts for our servant robots," the first one admitted, grabbing a tool with a sharp scalpel type of end on it as he stared at my naked body.

I couldn't explain the way his eyes torturously scanned over me. It wasn't sexual in any way, but it was thirsty, as if he couldn't wait to cut me up with that atrociously sharp tool in his hand.

Horrified, I tried not to scream but I drew in a sharp, instinctive breath anyway.

The cyborgs noticed my subtle movement right away. They gawked at me, freezing in place as they held their equipment suspended mid-air in their hands, shocked at my reaction to their conversation.

Before anyone could react, a siren began blaring through the room. It was shrill and alarming, deafening. My eardrums felt like they were going to bust out at any moment. The vibration of the alarm was bone-chilling and tremored through me like a massive earthquake.

The cyborgs began scattering like bugs all around the room with panic-stricken expressions. The sound of feet shuffling quickly through the hallways adjacent to the room began to rapidly approach.

I had no idea what was going on, but fear tortured me. I guessed that somehow the ship had been compromised, judging by the severity of the cyborgs' reaction. They were definitely not expecting this, whateveritwas.

As they fled the room, leaving me naked and alone, I realized that I had the miraculous opportunity to try and find a way out of this alive. They were so distracted that they didn't even bother to lock the door. My legs felt like jelly as I slid off the table and tried to stand up. I was a little wobbly at first, but I didn't really have time to get my body back in working order. I forced myself to snap to attention and quickly glanced around the room.

"Not so fast," a cyborg guard growled at me with horrifying yellow glowing eyes and a snarl on his twisted, pale mouth.

I could tell that he was a guard because he wasn't wearing a white lab coat, and he had different armor that was red in color. He was also wearing a partial helmet that covered his head but not his face. He had a gun pointed at me that resembled something you might find in a comic book with a large circular barrel, like a ray gun or something. He began marching toward me as if he couldn't wait to shoot me down with that thing.

I wasn't about to let this idiot take me out. As soon as he reached me, I ducked quickly to throw him off, and then grabbed one of the syringes that the other cyborg was holding right before the alarm began wailing through the ship.

I had no idea what this concoction was loaded with, but I took my chances. I drew my fist back and plunged it directly into the neck of the guard, gritting my teeth as I stabbed the needle into whatever 'skin' I could find on his neck.

Whatever was in the serum worked and immediately went into effect. The guard's eyes rolled back in his head, and he dropped like a sack of potatoes to the ground. I wasn't sure if he was dead or not, but frankly I didn't care.

I needed to find a way to get the hell out of here and get to a legitimate hiding spot before the cyborg team returned to finish me off.

ChapterTwo

CYBURN

“You're making a mistake." Amada, my chief engineer— who, I might add, just so happened to be my former lover, glowered at me in the control room of theBlade, our spaceship.

"I don't want to argue with you right now, Amada," I told her carefully as I crossed her to move toward the exit of the bridge. I readjusted the ammunition that was strapped to my body armor and clicked the safety on my ray gun into place.

Amada scowled at me through her pale gray eyes, narrowing them with scrutiny as she watched me move past her. Her inspecting eyes made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Where do you thinkyouare going at this critical time?" she exclaimed in an accusatory tone as if I owed her something.

Her skin looked more of a dark green color tonight than it normally did. Sometimes that happened when she was fired up about something. When she was calm, her greenish skin tone paled out more.

"I'm going to sabotage the Belic ship," I responded mildly.

"You can't—"

"Yes,I can… and Iwill," I interjected, pausing to turn around and give her a warning stare. "I am the crown prince—"

"Thendosomething about it," Amada barked. "You are theleader, not just the prince anymore. All we have isyou. We can't loseyoutoo."

I could tell by the horrified look on her face that she hadn't meant to say that aloud.

"How dare you." I cut her an icy glare. "I'm doing the best I can here, trying to fulfill the legacy my father left behind."

Amada threw her slender arms up in the air, but her features were apologetic. Even if she wasn't deliberately trying to stir me up a bit, she was.
