His kiss was so sensual, loving, affectionate.

His kiss made me forget who I was for a second, made me forgetwhereI was, and all the strife I was going through at the moment.

It was like a lucid dream that kept plunging me deeper into the depths of passion and awareness.

I was locked in an enchanted fortress. I was soaring through the heavens. Tingles of ecstasy rippled across my body.

I spun out, but in an exceptional way— as Cyburn's lips grazed against mine. His kisses were soft and slow, calculated, and smooth. It was methodical. Our bodies tangled together as we kissed harder, breathing rapidly.

Our spirits connected. Nothing could tear us apart. It was as if we were two souls bound together by a higher power.

My tongue danced with his. He massaged his hands through my hair. I weaved my fingers through his as well. I skirted across the edge, hurtling toward paradise-thriving oblivion.

When I was with Cyburn intimately like this, nothing else mattered. We surrendered everything we had to each other.

Time stopped, and we forgot about everything else.

If only it could stay that way forever.

ChapterSeventeen

CARMELA

“Iknow that the main reason I've recovered this quickly is because of you," Cyburn said, gazing into my eyes with a deep and sensual longing that flickered in his coal black eyes.

The color of his eyes was mysterious and elusive, but on the contrary, they had the power to brighten up my darkest of moments in nothing more than an instant.

Every time I heard his voice and he spoke to me in that low, sexy, alien drawl of his, my heart jumped around excitedly.

I took his hand and squeezed it as he laid there on the cot, his naked torso exposed, his spectacularly muscular body just… there… for me to stare at with a bit of infatuated adoration.

"I hardly did anything."

"You're here with me." His smile was earnest. "So, that counts."

I laughed, trying to accept. "Well…"

"Fine." Cyburn droned and grinned. "You aren't playing along."

"Yes, I am," I countered defensively, but I tossed him a playful smile anyway.

"Will you at least settle forhalfthe reason I'm making such a speedy recovery?" Cyburn asked.

"I suppose that will suffice," I said with a humble shrug.

In reality, I was still worried about him, but I was trying not to let it show too much because I just wanted to focus on him getting better.

"I'm grateful to have your support," Cyburn admitted.

He continued giving me that dreamy, dazed smile, staring at me as if he thought the world began in my eyes.

"You have tons of support from a lot of different outlets," I mentioned and nudged my chin in Nix's direction, who was still standing guard outside. "For instance… him."

"Nix has been with me from the very beginning," Cyburn agreed, suddenly looking stoic as he stared at his second in command. "He is my best friend. He always has been."

"I'm glad you two are so close. I wish I had someone like that in my life, too," I admitted.

"He's my First Mate for a reason," Cyburn said. "I wouldn't just pick anyone."
