Ekateni stared at him. “You’ll live longer as a dragon, and if you stay, we’ll get you appropriate lodgings.”

“No. I need to come back, to help my kingdom. I can’t do much like this.”

His uncle shook his head. “Forget Aluria, forget your past. You’re home now.”

“No. I need to help them. And I…” He was thinking about Leah. “I’m betrothed.” This wasn’t really true but wasn’t that much of a lie either.

“You’ll forget about her, I promise you. You’re a dragon now, and you’ll find a dragon companion.”

There was no point trying to argue. “I see you’re in human form. Relia took human form, as well as the guards surrounding my interrogation. I’d like to be able to do that as well.”

“Certainly. It might take a few years, but you’ll get there.”

“I don’t have years.”

“Of course you do.” Ekateni chuckled. “You’ll live much longer now, Isofel. Accept your power and who you are.”

It took a lot of self control not to torch his uncle. Would fire burn dragons in human form, though? “And how am I going to learn about my power? Is there someone who can teach me?” Hopefully someone with more empathy.

“That’s a good idea, in fact. I know the perfect dragon to mentor you.

“And who’s that?

“You’ll see.”

Azir felthis heart beat faster as he stared at Princess Katia, from Wolfmark. “Is Ursiana hurt?”

“No. But you have to see what she’s doing, you have to. You’ll thank me.”

“I have to follow you?” He sighed.

“Yes.”

“Is this a trick?”

“Of course not. You’ll see.” She batted her eyelashes again.

Azir had no choice but to walk with that princess, consumed with worry and fear that perhaps Ursiana would be in danger. They walked down to the gardens of the castle then went to the part where there was a small maze and several greenhouses. A few guards had seen them passing by, but thankfully she still had her cloak on. If someone saw them together, he would face the wrath of the Wolfmark family. Perhaps that was her plan.

“Wait,” he said. “Why are you bringing me here?”

“To see the Greenstone princess. You know that.”

“Just so you know, if by any chance this is a plan, if you want to set me up, I will not, I will absolutely not marry you.”

She shook her head. “This is no trap, Umbraar king. I’m ratheralertingyou to a trap, before you marry a slut.”

Azir was about to slap her, but words rehearsed since childhood came to him.Control your darkness. Control, control, control, he had to control it. And yet, there was only so much he could take. “Say that word again about her, and you’ll face grave consequences.”

Princess Katia shrugged. “We’re almost there. I’ll let you make up your mind.”

They were walking through a path covered with plants, when Katia tripped and fell. He should perhaps have held her, but he was still suspicious about this princess, and wondered if she’d tripped on purpose so he would hold her. Her yell was loud enough that could have alerted some guards, so he stepped as far away from her as he could, just in case someone came.

The princess got up and shook the dirt from her skirt. “Thanks for the help.”

“You got up just fine, didn’t you? Where are we going?”
