Leah swallowed. “I don’t know. I don’t know if we’re near, far, I just don’t have any idea where we are. I got lost for a moment. I’m sorry.”

“Why sorry? You saved us.”

“Well, you were doing pretty well moving the arena. How did you do it?”

“It had some metal beams in the base and was over a rock with some metal ore. I’m surprised it worked, actually.”

“Your magic is amazing.” Leah looked around at that strange place, in that strange land. “But now we’re lost.”

Fel was quiet for some time, but then he said, “Dragons can sense other dragons. Someone will find us soon. The question is whether they will be friends or enemies.”

The wind was the only sound she could hear, even if she felt her own heart thumping in her chest. “We can’t stay here, then.”

His chest moved up and down, slowly. “My wings are almost good. I’ll fly us somewhere where there’s a lot of metal. My magic could keep us safe if a large group attacks us.”

She caressed his scales. “Eventually you’ll have to rest, though.”

“I know. Leah, I’m sorry I didn’t find the answers I was looking for, I’m sorry I brought you here.”

“I think you found out a lot, and even found some of your family. Eventually you’ll reconnect with them. And there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. This… Cynon… The way they talk about it, that it influences people, I think he was in my head, Fel. That was what I heard; someone looking for the iron dragon, and that was why I had to leave.”

“You heard? How?”

Leah jumped from his back and stood in front of him, so she could see his eyes, which were green like his human ones, beautiful in a different way, but still beautiful. “In my mind. It’s odd to say it, but it was like I had a bridge to this creature, and then it saw you. I blocked it now, I can feel it’s blocked. But I think it was with me before. It’s so similar to what they’re talking about, this Cynon. I spent some time in a realm in the hollow, and a fae helped me and mentioned a Breaker, which was similar as well. I think maybe it’s the same creature, but I feel it is in Aluria already.”

“Maybe it’s everywhere.”

She reached out a hand and caressed his face. “Maybe.” She tried to think. “But it has to be related to the dragons, right? If the creature had a reaction to seeing you, if they wanted the iron dragon?”

“Likely. I’m lost, Leah, and I don’t mean just that I don’t know where we are and have absolutely no idea how to navigate this continent. Where do we even start? How do you fight an enemy if you don’t even know what it is, where it is, and what it wants?”

“It seems to want you dead for some reason.”

“Yes, theiron dragon.” His tone was mocking. “As if I could do anything. All I can do is move metal and blast fire. I can’t even take my human form yet.”

Leah kept caressing the soft scales on the side of his face. She knew he’d been worried about being in this form, and she understood his worry, but at the same time, this was also who he was. “It’s not a problem.”

“You know it is. If we get back, how can I do anything for Umbraar?”

That was a good question, for which she had no answer. He couldn’t act as a prince like that. Still, she tried to cheer him up. “At least you’re looking good. Not that you didn’t look good before. But, you know, considering our situation, I suggest we start looking at the little positives.”

“We’re both alive.”

Leah chuckled. Yes, it was great that they were both alive, both together. It wasn’t something they should take for granted. The question was how long that was going to last. “Do you really think we should just wait for other dragons to find us?”

“For now. Eventually we’ll need food, water. When the sun rises, I’ll have a sense of direction and then we can fly south. If I fly really high, I can do it during the day, and eventually we’ll reach Aluria.”

Eventuallywas an uncomfortable word when so much was happening, when so much was at stake. Plus, they could be east or west of their continent, in which case, flying south would not bring them home. But repeating out loud how lost they were wasn’t going to help anyone. She smiled. “We’ll wait, then.”

“Actually, no. Get on my back. I think my wings are strong enough to get us to a place with more metal, or at least metallic rocks, or else we’ll be easy targets. I doubt they’ll take long to find me.”

Leah did as he told her, but a light caught her attention. A fire ring, on their right.

Dragons were coming.
