“Okay.” They get up, all of them so fucking eager. “We’re on it. We’ll tell her.”

I wish I could go with them but I’m the weapons man, so I’m needed here.

“Alright, Ares and I need to hand these weapons out to everyone that can hold a gun. We need our bodyguards out in force.”

They leave and I start going over the weapons.

“We need to secure the perimeter,” I say. “But mostly we need to focus on keeping Caroline isolated from all of it.”

“Keep her on the top floor,” he says with fierceness in his eyes.

“You mean so you can sneak away and bang her? I think not. Those guys will keep her in a secure location.”

I keep Ares with me because I know he’ll do anything to be alone with Caroline, even in the midst of war. But also because when his intensity is put to good use he’s quite the commander in battle.

“Fuck,” he says. “I can’t believe Edwin would do that. I hate to say it, but do you think Kaden and I were too hard on him to make him retaliate like this?”

“Fuck no, man. He fired on you. He’s probably been waiting for a long time for an excuse to attack us. I wonder, though, how Archibald didn’t see this coming. Normally he’s so on top of everything.” I’ve been thinking, and it really doesn’t make sense.

“Yeah well, Edwin is a criminal of a different breed. He has absolutely no morals. The man is dead inside. I’m sure Archibald never expected him to go off the rails like this.”

“Hopefully he’ll be dead soon and it won’t matter.” Thinking of the reducing him to ashes makes me happy. I’d be happy to burn his corpse, and I can almost smell the stench of burning flesh. He will go down.

“You think he deserves to die? Don’t you that’s going to make Caroline get upset?”

Ares is worried about Caroline, and so am I. But I’ve seen the way she’s reacted throughout this whole ordeal.

“She knows it’s going to happen,” I say. “He offered her up as ransom, for fuck’s sake. It’s obvious he doesn’t give a fuck about her.”

“You’re probably right.”

I know I am, and it makes me feel even worse for Caroline. I can see it’s the same for Ares.

His lust turned the right way becomes compassion. I know he really cares about her beyond the superficial desires of the body. All of our connections with Caroline go deep. I can almost taste her as I think of her wet pussy aching and throbbing for me.

“Can’t you almost just taste her pussy juices on your lips?”

“No man, but I can imagine you’re doing it right now.” Ares laughs. He knows me well.

We’re both lost in our own peculiar vices, and for a moment I forget all about Edwin. But the smell of ammo that permeates the room eventually brings me crashing back down to reality.

“Alright, let’s do this.”

We pack up the weapons and start to disperse. Game on. Edwin has no idea what’s about to hit him.

Chapter 19

Caroline

The seventeenth floor of the building hosts a beautiful spa with all the amenities could ever want. There are steam and sauna rooms, a blow out bar, full makeup service, the works. I’m coming to get a massage.

The elevator clicks down the floors, and I walk out in nothing but a satin robe. I didn’t even bother with panties. No reason to put them on when I’m just going to take them back off again.

My masseuse is waiting for me with a smile and five-star service, complete with a flute of champagne, and she escorts me to the very zen masseuse’s lounge.

“Right this way, Caroline.”

“Hi, do I know you?” I smile back at her.

“I’m Kandy. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

She seems to know me, though I’ve never set eyes on her. I disrobe and then lie on the prepared table, my head cradled in the cushy cutaway pillow, peering down at only the floor and her feet. She begins to work on me, and holy shit, it’s so relaxing. I let myself unwind and I practically melt into the table, that’s how badly I need this.

“Ooh, you’re all tense up here in your shoulders. Let me help you relax and work these kinks out.”

Her hands are like magic soothing out the knots in my back and shoulders; the frustration and fear for my life is just oozing out.

“Thank you, that feels so good. You’re hitting it just right.”

I’m one of those people who can’t just get a massage in silence. I like have to talk to the person or else I feel awkward and unsociable.

“So,” I begin to break the ice. “How’d you get into this business?”

“Me? Oh well, do you want the truth or do you want the story I tell most people?”
