Desperate, I told him I had already met an Alpha, a rich one who would pay him more than the on-line guy. But he either didn’t believe me or couldn’t be bothered to cancel the deal with the other Alpha and maybe lose face with his buddies down at the bar. He informed me he already had a good deal, an excellent one that would make him the envy of all his friends and one that was much better than anything I could have ever come up with. I should just shut up and thank him before I pissed him off enough that he forgot he shouldn’t mark me up too badly.

I don’t think he really even believed me, anyway. He made sure I had no cell phone or any way to call for help. I thought I could call Dominic and he’d come or send someone, but there was never any chance. He kept me locked inside my bedroom at all times.

By the time the knock came on the door and the big, burly Alpha who had been traveling, my father told me, all the way from Texas, stood there on my father’s doorstep, I think I was a little numb. Not quite enough not to feel revulsion clog my throat as I saw his beer belly and the lust sparking in his eyes. He put a finger in the air and made me twirl around for him, but I was pretty much dead inside. I was so sunk in despair, it hardly even registered on me as my father made me strip off my clothes first so the Alpha could fully inspect me.

He'd handed over the money, signed on the dotted line and took me by the arm to haul me out to his dusty pickup truck in the driveway. Both he and his truck reeked of cigarette smoke and of course, my nausea chose that time to remind me it was still hanging around. I stifled a gag—I couldn’t afford to let him know I was “damaged goods.” My father had sold me as a virgin and there was no telling what this Alpha would do to me and my baby when he found out I was pregnant. Beating me half to death would be the least of it. He’d waited while I climbed in the truck, threw my bag in my lap and came around to start the engine and pull away.

He never said a word as we drove toward town and the interstate, and I thought maybe I’d have the long drive to Texas ahead of me before he’d have a chance at me. I had plans to make a run for it as soon as we stopped for gas, or sooner if I could. Anyway, at my earliest opportunity. But then he pulled into the local Holiday Inn and right up to a room on the bottom floor. My heart dropped to my feet. He turned to me then and smiled, showing yellowed, smoke-stained teeth.

“Get out, boy. I want a taste of you before we leave town. Leave your bag. We won’t be here too long. I just want to make sure you’re as good as your daddy promised before we get too far down the road.”

Trembling just a little, I got out and followed him to the door. I could do this, I told myself. I would just grit my teeth, close my eyes and make my mind go somewhere else while he was pawing over me. Maybe to a magical rooftop deck, with the stars overhead and the moon hanging in the sky like a big paper lantern.

I’d think of my handsome Alpha and somehow, I’d get through this. I’d survive until he was done with me, and then I’d find a way to run if I had to smash a lamp over his head to do it. That’s what I told myself as we went inside. He turned to me and barked an order at me to take off my clothes, as he threw himself on the unmade bed that he’d clearly slept in the night before and unzipped his jeans. I guess he wanted to wank off as he watched me undress.

Well, fuck that and fuck him. He wasn’t getting a show. I slipped off my t-shirt as fast as I could, toed off my boots and unbuttoned my jeans. Then I pushed them and my underwear down in one go, anxious to get this ordeal over with so I could find a way to escape.

And it was then, just as I bent over to extract my feet from my jeans, my ass toward the door and fully exposed, that the door suddenly sprang open, and I heard a godawful roar behind me. I whirled around to see Dominic framed in the doorway behind me.

He stared at me in shock for a moment, and then his eyes cut over to the Alpha on the bed. I remember that part clearly. I even remember the loud squeak that came out of my throat as I jerked my pants back up and saw Kyle’s shocked face appearing over Dominic’s shoulder. After that, things got a little wild.

Actually, things got a lot wild.

I was picked up bodily around the waist and thrown back toward Kyle, who caught me, thank goodness and carried me to the big black car sitting beside the Texan’s truck. He put me in the back seat, yelled, “Stay there and lock the doors!” and then took off back to the room, where loud sounds of roaring and furniture breaking, and general mayhem were reverberating all over the parking lot. Wisps of smoke were already coming out of the door.

People came running from every direction. From the motel office and from nearby rooms, and after a few more minutes passed, I saw two police cars pull up. Then after a little more time went by, two more cop cars came. Then the fire truck arrived. Finally, I saw the police hauling both Dominic and the Texan out in handcuffs. The Texan had most of his clothes hanging off him in tatters and bruises were already sprouting on his face, but Dominic merely looked a little rumpled and in a horrible temper. He wasn’t struggling, though, and was going along peacefully. He never so much as glanced over at me where I was sitting in the car.

Kyle came out on his own, thankfully, and got behind the wheel, still breathing hard. The minute he got inside, he was pulling out his cellphone.

“Ashworth? Hi, it’s Kyle. Can you get down to the police station here in Brownsville? Yeah, right away, please. Bring cash to bail Dominic out. Things got a little out of control here.” I could hear the squawks on the other end and then he said, “No, he’s okay. We’ll have to pay off a few people though, I suspect. Quite a few, actually, and pay for damages at a motel. Yeah, okay. Hurry.”

He hung up and looked back at me. When he saw me shirtless, he peeled out of his jacket and handed it back to me. “Are you all right?”

“I-I think so,” I said, pulling on the jacket. “I’m not…he never got a chance to…”

“Good,” he said, cutting me off. “Do you need to go to the hospital or anything? Sure? Okay, where’s your bag?”

“In the guy’s truck. Front seat.”

He got out and retrieved it, and then we were pulling out of the parking lot. The cop cars were still in the lot, and I could see Dominic in one and the Texan in the back of the other. I was shocked when Kyle drove right past them.

“But where are we going? We can’t just leave Dominic here!”

“Don’t get excited. Dominic’s a lawyer, and he can take care of himself until I get you home. I’m taking you out of here like he told me to, and Ashworth is already on his way, no doubt with a team of criminal lawyers. He’ll be here soon. Let him do what he gets paid to do and I’ll domyjob. Dominic told me when we got there that I was to find you and get you safely back home, so that’s what I’m doing.”

“But they’re going to put Dominic in jail!”

“Nah, I don’t think so. The other guy can’t press charges without admitting he was involved in human trafficking. That’s what these human police officers would call it anyway. Ashworth will handle the motel people and your family. Enough money will make all this go away, so don’t worry. Even that other Alpha will come out okay—a little bruised in places, but no more than he deserves. He’ll get his money back, and he can go on his way.”

“But my father…”

“Won’t do shit. Same reason as ole Tex won’t do anything. And if your father plays his cards right, he’ll get a nice omega price, which is way more than he deserves, and you’ll never have to see him again if you don’t want to.”

The rest of the ride home was a blur, frankly. I couldn’t help worrying about Dominic and what was happening to him, and I think I may have been in a little bit of shock. When we pulled up in my driveway, I was surprised to see Hailey’s car. She got out to greet us, and I saw Kyle looking at me in the rear view.

“I think Ashworth called her and told her we were on our way back. Let her take care of you a little. She’s been worried, and she’s a good friend. You’ve been through a lot.”

Hailey yanked open the back door where I was sitting before Kyle even turned off the engine. When she pulled me into a hug, I realized how exhausted I really was, in mind, body and spirit. We all went inside my little house, and Hailey made me lie down and put my feet up, and she put a blanket over me, even though there really was absolutely nothing wrong with me.
