“The odds are a statistical impossibility,” Charlie throws out and no one’s going to argue with Charlie when it comes to math.

“What’s your point?” Lisa asks.

“That we will make it to the continent,” I say and suddenly it doesn’t seem to be the big deal it was when it first occurred to me. “We will because we must. We can’t have come this far, survived all of this, and I don’t know,” I motion around with my hands, “it can’t be for nothing. Right?”

No one speaks. We stare at each other and time ticks past. My cheeks flush as I grow uncomfortable, not used to calling so much attention to myself.

“Tajss provides.”

Every Zmaj in the room intones and it’s magical. A moment in time such as I’ve never felt in my life. It feels important, somehow spiritual.

“Tajss provides,” I say, echoing the sentiment as Bahr wraps his arms around and pulls me tight. “Exactly.”

My fellow humans hesitate, each of them wrestling with their own private thoughts, then Ziva, dear Ziva the former socialite and princess of the stars, laughs.

“Belle,” she says. “You’re a dreamer. A beautiful dreamer but I had no idea you were also a wise woman. Tajss provides!”

And, like her acceptance is what everyone was waiting for, they all repeat it. It’s a prayer and a truth. Three generations lived before me on the ship to bring us here, to this point in time where my soul mate waited.

It won’t be easy. Nothing on Tajss is easy and there will be dangers, but we’ll face them together. Bahr and I, and this group. Thrown together by fate, we’ve become so much more than a ragtag bunch of survivors. We are family.

If Tajss, or fate, or whatever force for good can accomplish that, reaching the other continent will happen. It’s only a matter of how and when. Until then, we are happy.

And as a family, we know Tajss will provide.
