Epilogue

Christmas Morning

Adam

Sitting on the couch, watching his wife help their daughter unwrap her presents – although Melody appeared to be far more interested in the actual wrapping paper than the present inside of it – Adam grinned.

“More coffee?” Angel’s mom asked, coming up beside him.

“Yes, thank you,” he said, holding out the pot. Pouring the coffee, she cast a fond look over at her daughter and granddaughter.

“You two are holding up so well. This first year can be so difficult.” Jade shook her head. “Then it becomes more difficult when you keep adding to the family. But it’s so worth it. Mostly.” Chuckling, she glanced over at her two sons who were all arguing about whose present their niece was going to like best.

Adam had to laugh. Percy and Captain were both determined to be the favorite uncle and weren’t shy about pushing their agenda. It was probably a good thing both of them had moved away from their home state or Melody would be even more spoiled than she already was.

Patting Adam on the shoulder, Jade moved away to scold her sons and remind them that Melody was going to like her present best. Laughing, Adam caught Angel’s eye. She was grinning, also watching all the antics of her family. Their gazes caught. Held.

Her expression softened.

Was it the same look she’d given him when they’d first fallen in love?

No. Because they’d grown since then. Been through more. Had a child together. Changed together. And that was the important part. That they were doing it together. There were always going to be things to work through, challenges along the way, but they were going to get through them side by side.

“Merry Christmas,” he said. Melody squealed, happily pulling paper out of a gift bag and completely ignoring the gift inside.

“Merry Christmas.” Angel blew him a kiss, laughing when Melody imitated her.

It was, indeed, a very merry Christmas.
