I snort, propping myself up on my elbow, and bite my lip when I realize how sore my nipples are from the weights. “On Earth, we don’t just barge into other people’s rooms…especially not our future sister-in-law.”

“I told you Atlas isn’t my brother.”

“But he’s your boss.”

Keon strolls forward, his features becoming clearer as he draws closer. I can make out dark circles under his eyes, smeared makeup, the scent of smoke—although I’m not sure what substance—on his clothes.

It’s morning, but I think this guy’s been partying all night.

“I’m a rockstar, sweet thing,” he says. “Do you really think I care if my boss doesn’t want me fucking his wife?”

“And what if I don’t want to?” I ask.

He laughs, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “Don’t lie, araske,” he says. “It’s not a good look on you.”

I frown, sitting up in bed and covering my breasts now. Keon doesn’t touch me, but he doesn’t hesitate to look at me—and I can tell he likes what he sees. The lazy smile doesn’t leave his face, his black tongue darting out over his sharp teeth.

I think their tongues are longer, thinner. I wonder what they feel like.

“Why do you keep calling me that?” I ask.

“So you know what it means?” he says. “Oh, yeah—your file said you spoke Diavolo. I don’t know…it just feels right.”

I narrow my eyes, chewing on my lip. They’re still plump from last night’s afterglow, and I’m sure my makeup is just as smeared as his. “There’s more to it than that.”

Keon gives me a discerning look, cocking his head to one side. His hair tumbles over one shoulder, and I catch sight of a hickey on his neck.

Yeah…he was definitely partying all night.

“And why would you think that?” he asks. “You seem terribly paranoid for some little Earth girl fresh from the spaceport.”

“I have every right to be,” I say. “I’m new here, surrounded by aliens. It isn’t weird at all.”

Keon reaches toward me, taking my hand in what almost feels like a friendly gesture. Or…it would, if a flicker of electricity didn’t zing up my arm, and toward my lips, static on my tongue.

“Come to my show tonight,” he says.

I raise my eyebrows, blinking rapidly. “I’m not sure if Atlas would approve of that.”

“Atlas wants you to explore Solis,” he says. “What better way to do that than by coming to my show? I’ll show you around, and then we can have dinner—and I’ll answer all the questions you have.”

“Is that so?” I say. “Anyquestions?”

He smirks. “We’ll see how charitable I feel tonight. I’ll send a car for you at seven—be ready.”

“Will you have an outfit picked out for me?”

Keon laughs…and it’s actually a nice laugh. It feels genuine, even good-natured.

So why do I think this guy is gonna stab me in the back?

“I think I will pick something out for you,” he says. “I’ll send it to your room after breakfast.”

“And you won’t be joining us?”

“No,” he says. “I think you should have the morning to chat with Atlas.”
