I stand and walk toward Keon, his eyes following me around the table. He reaches out a hand and crooks his finger, giving me a roguish half-smile. “Closer,” he says.

I lean closer.

“Take a seat,” he murmurs.

I’m already so close to him that I can feel his breath on my breasts, where my dress has gotten crooked. I didn’t even realize how used up I look until just now; my dance with Corvus did a number on me. Keon doesn’t touch me, but he’s somehow able to drag me in with his eyes as I bend my knees and straddle his knee.

The pressure is instant, reminding me just how wet I got during the show. I squeeze my eyes shut and grind against him once, and Keon lets out a low chuckle.

“I see the show had its intended impact,” he says. “You really did like it.”

I bite my lip and open my eyes, finding his irises to be blood orange, his sharp canines pressing into his lips. “What do you want from me?” I say. “Why am I here?”

He huffs out a breath, and it’s only then that I feel his hands on my hips, then my back. He slides one hand up into my hair and tugs on it, and I gasp.

“For pleasure,” he says. “Isn’t that why we’re all here?”

He gets just a centimeter closer to me. I hold my breath. He’s so close that he could kiss me, but I think he’s waiting for me to make the first move.

And in this world full of so much risk, and the potential for so much reward…I know there’s only one thing I can do.

I lean down and press my lips to Keon’s, sparks racing from my mouth and into my extremities. His tongue plunges into my mouth with bold precision, spearing past my lips. I almost choke on it, it’s so long. Keon plunders my mouth, gripping my hair tightly.

Then he pulls back to lick at the shell of my ear.

“Bathroom,” he whispers. “I’m going to pull you in there. Act like we’re hooking up.”

Holy shit.

This is a setup?

In the split second between his proposition and my response, I run every possible outcome. He might just be trying to fuck me, in which case…well, I can figure it out. Maybe he’s scheming against Atlas, I could see that. They don’t seem to like each other. And if I can hop onboard with another assassination plot, that’s one less step for me.

Or maybe…

…maybe he has information on Layla.

No matter what, there’s only one way forward.

“Yes,” I whisper.

Keon stands suddenly, lifting me with surprising strength and setting me on my feet. He takes my hand and drags me in for another kiss, and then tugs me toward the other side of the room. I didn’t even know there was a door there, but he’s reaching for the curtain, his other hand groping for my ass as he smiles against my lips—

“Where do you think you’re going?”

We both turn, and I’m shocked to find that Corvus has somehow re-materialized out of nowhere. He stands there with a frown, looking every bit the detached bodyguard.

But Keon must see something I can’t…or maybe he really could see us from the stage.

“Jealous, Shayd?”

Corvus stiffens. “I just don’t know if it’s a good idea to take her away,” he says. “Atlas said—”

“She’ll be fine with me, won’t you, Penn?”

I look from Keon to Corvus.

He looks worried.
