“We had sex,” I say. “It doesn’t mean anything.”

“You ran away with him. You spent the night together,” he says. “It means something.”

I sigh, glancing over at him to find that he still won’t fucking look at me. “What?” I say. “Are you jealous?”

He takes a deep breath, his shoulders rising and falling.

Then he looks at me, his eyes flickering gold.

“What do you want me to say, Penn?” he asks. “How do youwantme to respond?”

It’s a damn good question, isn’t it?

“I want you to do your job, and to let me do mine,” I say. “I’m still trying to make this happen, but I won’t be able to do that if they figure us out.”

“Funny…I don’t know if you really are trying to make this happen,” he says. “I think you’re starting to like both Atlas and Keon. And I wonder what you talked about with the deviant prince on your little adventure around Solis.”

“I thought you followed us,” I say.

“I did,” he says. “But that doesn’t mean I could hear you.”

I sigh and lick my lips. “I’m not hiding anything from you,” I say. “I thought you were within earshot when we were at the restaurant. All he did was come onto me, and I saw it as an opportunity to get into Atlas’ head.”

Will he believe me? I have no way of knowing. At this point, maybe it doesn’t matter, since my options are growing more limited by the second. If there’s really no way to escape the villa, perhaps it’s best if I sell out Corvus.

Unfortunately, I like Corvus. And I’ve never betrayed an ally.

“You didn’t answer my question,” he says through gritted teeth. I snap my gaze back toward him, and find that he’s staring right at me now. “Do you want me to be jealous?”

“That’s a loaded question, isn’t it?” I murmur.

Our eyes lock. I don’t think there’s anyone watching. The tension has been growing between the two of us since our first meeting at the Hive, and it feels like it might snap right here and now.

“I wouldn’t mind having all three of you,” I say. “I don’t think there’s any reason not to share.”

His mouth curls up in a lazy smile, more like he’s trying to defuse his own anger than like he’s amused. Still, he leans against the railing and lets his eyes trail down my body, his pierced tongue flicking out to wet his lips. “Did you want an invitation?” he asks quietly.

“To what?”

“To Keon’s bedroom tonight,” he says.

My whole body throbs at those words, imagining the two of them together, me between them, or even watching…fuck, it’s almost too much. In that instant, I picture sweat-slick bodies, hear cries of pleasure, taste the silver and gold of their flesh.

Corvus sees the look on my face and grins wider, his sharp teeth showing. “You do, don’t you?” he murmurs, taking a step closer. Not close enough to kiss, but close enough to touch. His fingers just barely graze mine on the railing, and it’s enough to make me shudder, especially when he leans in to whisper in my ear. “You’re such a cock-hungry slut that you can’t even be satisfied after getting fucked in a room full of people.”

I take a steadying breath, closing my eyes. Then I look over at him, fully composed.

“You’re playing games,” I say.

Corvus withdraws, looking smug and self-satisfied. I roll my eyes at him, shaking my head. “Just trying to see if you’re still on task,” he says.

“I told you I’m a professional, and I’m still working the case,” I say. “I guess what I’m wondering, though, is if you’re going to take him up on his offer.”

Corvus strokes his chin. “What are your thoughts?”

I shrug. “Keon likes to talk, especially when he’s in bed. If you get him on topic, you might learn something interesting.”

“And if he’s using this is an opportunity to do the same to me?”
