And the more comfortable he is with me, the better, right?

Someone hands me a towel, and it’s only in that moment that I realize Corvus has joined our retinue of guards. I don’t know where he came from, or how long he’s been there. He doesn’t so much as glance at my body, while Atlas seems to devour me with his eyes, biting his lip with one sharp tooth.

“So what do you have in mind?” I ask. “I’m game.”

Atlas seems to shut down a little at my question, his smile faltering.

Then, when he speaks, I understand what he’s suggesting.

“Have you ever been immobilized?”

My eyes flutter as I consider his words, my brow furrowing. “Like…tied up?”

More times than I can count.

I don’t tell him that.

But he has to sense how my pussy clenches, because he licks his lips.

“You have, haven’t you?” he says.

I blush, giving him a coy smile from under my lashes. “I actually kind of like it?” I murmur. “Is that wrong for me to say?”

Out of the corner of my eye, Corvus shifts uncomfortably on his feet. I’m still naked; I haven’t put on the towel, and the sun is beating down on my shoulders. It feels good to stand here in the heat, Atlas ravishing me with his eyes in a clear preamble to what we’re about to do next.

I can’t wait.

Like…I almost literally can’t wait. My core throbs and aches, and I bite my lip.

He’s touching me with his Gift—he has to be.

“Then come with me, Penn,” he says. “I have a surprise for you.”

He turns and moves away with some of his guards, expecting me to follow along. I’m eager to do as he says, wrapping my towel around my chest and tucking it in, then stepping forward. The only thing that stops me is a surprising hand on my elbow, then a voice in my ear.

Corvus.

“Be careful,” he grits out, his voice silent.

Then he lets me go, and I follow Atlas.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

?

PENN

The villa stretches on and on. Atlas takes me to an entirely different wing than where I’m staying, where we pass under ivy arches and into a sun-dappled living room. The sunset casts the whole place in jewel tones, tapestries draped from ceiling to floor, and I’m sure they’ll look even more beautiful once the stars come out. I don’t know where the rest of the Family went; maybe they live in the villa, or down in the city. Regardless, I don’t really care.

Because Atlas is dragging me forward like his little whore, his Gift wrapped around my neck like a collar.

I’m beyond ready for this man to touch me, and if this is his last test, I’ll pass with flying colors. I fall into this role easily; I know how to be a good girl, and I’ll be as good as I possibly can for him. He seems to sense how eager I am, and he turns to look over his shoulder at where I trail him.

I’m getting in too deep.

We’re still surrounded by guards, three on either side of Atlas, Corvus trailing behind me. They seem to come and go, and I can’t make sense of how he summons them. I wonder if it has something to do with his Gift; if he’s somehow hardwired to call for help whenever he needs it. That could present another problem, but I—

The Gift jerks on me, and I stumble toward an ornate door at the very back of the room as Atlas smiles.
