My phone powers up and begins buzzing like crazy. Once it settles down, I begin weeding through my emails and messages, saving the calls for last. There are always more work emails versus calls, and I’m sure if they couldn’t get ahold of me and it was urgent, they would have called Miles or Miguel.

I’m answering my last one when Miles steps over to the table placing a plate of food and a glass of water in front of me. “What are you doing?”

“Answering work calls. Gotta make sure the people still get paid. Whether my dad plans to keep letting me work will remain to be seen.” Frustrated, I rake my hand through my hair before reaching down, picking up the sandwich, and taking a large bite.

Placing my sandwich back on my plate, with one hand I reach for my glass of water and with the other, I hit the voicemail icon on my phone.

What I didn’t expect to hear after a couple of messages from my secretary, was my father. His threat poured over the line, causing me to jump to my feet, not thinking of my injuries.

“Get the others down here now. We need to be prepared,” I order Miles.

Waking up alone wasn’t what I expected. I fully planned to wake up in Maverick's arms, then show him how much I loved him by ravishing his body. But instead, I’m all by my lonesome. My stomach growls, letting me know it’s time for food if I’m not getting sex.

Heading downstairs I’m a little shocked I haven’t run into at least one of the guys. Reaching the bottom of the stairs I begin to hear muffled voices that gradually get louder the closer to the dining room I get. Stepping through the threshold to the room, I see my guys, along with some I know from the pack, and then others I don’t.

“Mio figlio è stupenda!”the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen exclaims as she rushes across the room, embracing me in her arms as she squeezes me tightly.

“Mom, let her go and speak English,” Sebastian calls out, catching me off guard. She’s gorgeous and only looks to be in her early thirties if that. Her hair is jet black, hanging in waves down her back.

How the hell can she be his mother? If she is, it proves he will look young when I’m old.

“I’m so sorry. I am just so excited to meet my son’s mate and such a beautiful one. It has been more than a hundred years since we’ve had a fated mate within our coven and never one to a witch. I just wish we had gotten here before that vile man had a chance to take you."

“Thank you,” are the only two words I could piece together at the moment, I’m so caught off guard by everyone in the room.

Another man and woman step up to me, they look older than her but still pretty young. I don’t even need to ask who the woman is because she’s the spitting image of Damien.

“I must agree that our Damien has indeed found a beautiful mate. We would have been by to see you sooner, but the boys said you and the others needed your rest. So, well, we tried to comply with their wishes and that man had to go and spew more ugliness.”

“What! Who? Wha…” the words tumble out of my mouth in a jumbled mess.

“Mom, stop, she doesn’t know!” Damien shouts.

Looking around the room, I can see it on everyone’s faces. Something was just said that they all apparently know but I’m clueless. Damien steps up in front of me, taking my hands in his, and leads me to the empty seat by Maverick.

Ryder has been quiet since I stepped into the room but speaks up. “Shay, sweetheart. We were going to tell you but didn’t want to disturb you,” he starts, but at this point, I’m as impatient as fuck.

“Spit it out!” I demand forcefully.

“My father called and left a voicemail. He basically wanted to let us know he was coming for you. That the war was just beginning,” Maverick interjects before Ryder has a chance to say anymore.

“Okay, we came out okay last time he came. This time we’ll be prepared for him.” Turning my head towards Tala, I finish speaking. “Tala, I need to begin training again, from sunup to sundown; I need to be prepared. Hunter, Ryder I need to learn to fight. Sebastian, Damien, we need to protect Chelle. Maverick, what is your father’s weakness?” There has to be one thing that’s his kryptonite.

Maverick, Miles, and Miguel spoke for what seemed like hours about his father and Hugo, his right-hand man. Tala left to go check on Beba and to keep Chelle away from the conversation at hand.

I already knew his father was dirty, but hearing the stories they told I now knew he had no love for anyone's life but his own. One thing is for sure, he can never know about Chelle. Before they took me, I had a conversation with Tala about when she thought her powers would emerge; any day was all she could tell me. With all the uniqueness surrounding me and Maverick and her conception, the spell he placed on me, there was no telling how it impacted her.

So we were in a waiting game. Waiting for Maverick’s father, waiting to see what to do about my parents, and waiting to see when Chelle will get her powers.

Maverick leans into me, whispering into my ear. “Don’t worry about my dad, we got this. Look around the room at all these strong supernaturals ready to defend us. He may think he has the upper hand but we’ll come out on the brighter side of this. We just need to stay positive.”

“I know.” Giving him a kiss, I turn my attention back to the people talking, coming up with options on how to win the war. This prophecy will not end with me being under his control.
