Ryder stares at her for what seems like forever, before he starts speaking, “We can hear each other's wolves even when we are in human form. We always kept it a secret once we became old enough to realize it wasn’t normal. Our parents and the other elders in the pack just thought we had a vivid imagination.”

“Okay, wake him up now. I need to ask him something,” she barks out in a voice so powerful even I want to drop to my knees and submit to her like a wolf to his Alpha. Tala is being so secretive about herself. We learned just after she arrived that she was part vampire, a contradiction to everything we knew about her. But with the pending mating of Ryker and Shay, we never questioned it more. But the time is coming.

“I got it,” Miles announces, with a flick of his hands, electricity shoots out of them, hitting Hunter dead on.

The jolt sends him flying up into a seated position, panic all over his face as he quickly scans the room for the perceived threat.

“Good, you’re awake, we need to talk,” Tala tells him, sitting down on the coffee table in front of the couch, still clutching onto that book like it is the most valuable thing ever.

Chapter 2

Hunter

“Talk?Weneedtobe out finding my mate, our mate. What good is fucking talking going to do?” I’m fucking pissed. Why is anyone concerned with talking when Shay is missing? She is our priority and we need to find her.

“Hush boy! What I need to know is important and might help us.” She scolds me like a prepubescent child. “Tell me about the link you have with your brother. Where were you last night?” Her eyes never blink as she looks directly into mine, waiting for my answer.

She’s right, we do have a link and well, last night was a little, shall we say, exhilarating.

I had to get out, my wolf needed to run and it took every bit of my power to keep him from rushing to her.

Looking over to my brother, taking a deep breath, “I could feel them. It’s like at that moment, me and Ryder were one. It’s been that way since we were kids. Even when we weren’t in shifted form, we could hear each other’s wolf. It wasn’t normal and we knew. We told our father once, but he just assumed we were kids with an overactive imagination. As we got older and knew better about what was happening we chose to keep it a secret.” Looking around, I see the shocked look on everyone’s faces, but not Sebastian and Damien. We told our best friends long ago, never doubting they would sell us out by sharing our secret.

“Why did you leave?” Tala asks again, pulling my attention back to her.

“My wolf was clawing to get out and let’s just say it aroused us. I thought a run would help, and I had to fight to control him to keep him from going to them enough as it was. Knowing what I do now, I wish I had.” Regret laces my words as it eats me up inside that maybe I could’ve helped them.

“So you could feel him, them, together and you shifted and went for a run. What happened before you came back here?” Miles asks this time. “Did you collapse?”

“They umm… finished… and the next thing I knew, I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my neck and everything became blurry and started to spin before going black. When I woke up this morning, I managed to make it back to where I had stashed my pajamas and get back to the house. You know the rest.”

“What was the importance of knowing all this?” Miles asks, his eyebrow cocked and forehead wrinkled.

“The bond they have is not typical of wolves. Yes, they have the compulsion to follow the command of their Alpha, but they shouldn’t be able to talk to each other's wolves, to hear them. Even with brothers, you wouldn’t find this deep of a connection. The difference is the prophecy,” she explains.

“Care to elaborate more? We all know this is fucking unusual as hell. What we need to know is why? We spent all our lives feeling as if we were freaks,” I finally spew. “I’m tired of the time we’re wasting when our mate is out there, going through god knows what.”

“Because your bond was predestined, as was your connection to your brother and your mate, you can feel her whether you realize it or not. It will keep you and your brother grounded and it will key us into how she is,” she explains, when Miles goes white, with a deer in the fucking headlights look on his face.

“Shit, that’s how he felt her! Here we thought he was going insane or that the spell he placed on her had gone wonky.”

“If he felt her, then yes, it’s the bond and the tie to the prophecy.” She turns and looks at me and the guys before continuing, “The bond you share is not typical; it is far greater than anything you could imagine. You have barely tapped into the powers it will bring you all.”

“Okay, what do we do next, Ryder? Do you have a plan?” From the look on everyone else’s faces, they had the same question.

“Miles, Miguel, do you have an idea where Maverick’s father would have taken them? I’m sure at this point he is most likely the one that took them. The only question is how did he know where to find him or where Shay and I were going to be?” Ryder asks, slowly standing from the couch as his strength appears to be returning, his movements steadier.

Sebastian is across the room in a flash, grabbing Miguel, who was closest to him, by the shirt and slamming him against the wall. His fangs bared as he shouts, “Did you sell out my mate and your friend? How much were their lives worth to you?”

The fucker just laughs. He literally cackles, like a fucking witch in children’s stories, while Sebastian is out for blood.

“STOP!!” Ryder booms out, his Alpha power pushing out into the room, immediately shutting us up. Fuck if it didn’t seem stronger since he bonded with Shay.

“None of this is helping us. We need to work together to get our people back, and seeing how these two are crazy about Beba, I don’t see them having anything to do with this. I think it’s time we pay her father a little visit, but first, we need the pack behind us. I don’t want to alert anyone to where we think she is being held, so we need to send one of our scouts to observe her father and see what he knows.”

I watch as Damien paces the floor, randomly throwing his arms up in the air, and sighing deeply. He’s trying to process and calm down. He’s done that for as long as I’ve known him. Glancing over I see Sebastian eyeing him with concern, ready to run and console him if needed.

The more I think about it, Ryder’s right. Hell, it’s why he’s the Alpha. While I’m impulsive, he sees the logic. If I would have gone to her father enraged, it’s very likely it wouldn’t end well for me or Shay and Beba. Fuck, I need to include Maverick as well; he’s part of our bond now. We need the power of our pack behind us, and it's time for us to let them know their Alpha and Beta are mated.
