Getting out and making my way around the truck, I put my finger up to my mouth, motioning for everyone to remain quiet. I don’t want her to be tipped off before it’s time.

Carefully I open the door, reaching up to take her hand in mine. “Can I take it off yet?”

“Not yet.” I laugh when she stomps her foot on the packed snow. “First I wanna say a few things to you.”

“Well get on with it.” Someone laughs, and her ear lifts up. “There are other people here.”

“Just let me get this out, woman.”

“Okay, okay,” she laughs, smiling brightly.

“Last year when Maggie asked me to take a look at this cabin, I almost said no. There were so many things going on in my life, I was overwhelmed and tired. None of my days were good, not after losing Dad and trying to hold it all together. I lied to everyone, telling them I was fine, when I wasn’t.”

“We knew,” my brother says from behind us.

I turn around shushing him. “Never have I believed in insta-love until I saw you again in the doorway of the cabin. The next twenty-four hours? They were more than I ever could’ve imagined. Now the past year? It’s everything everyone should have in their lives. I’m so blessed to have found you again, I never wanna let you go.”

“I don’t wanna let you go either,” she grasps my hand tightly in hers.

Reaching down, I grab the blindfold over her face before taking a knee in the snow. “Holly Wreath, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Together, there’s nothing we can’t face and overcome.”

She blinks her eyes twice. “Oh my gosh, are we at the cabin?”

“We are, in fact, if you say yes, it’ll be our cabin. Maggie’s agreed to sell it to me.”

Her blue eyes dance with mischief. “I would say yes just for the cabin, but the fact is, I really love the guy on one knee in front of me. So I’m saying yes to it all.”

The crowd who’s gathered roars in approval, much like I do. Getting up, I wrap her tightly in my arms before spinning us around in a circle. “Here, let me put your ring on.”

We come to a stop, I reach in my pocket to get the ring. Hands shake as I open the box and show her the sparkling diamond.

“Luke!” She breathes. “Is this your mom’s?”

“Yeah,” I nod, gesturing over to where she stands. “It was my grandmother’s on my dad’s side before. It’s a family tradition.”

“It’s beautiful,” she admires it in the light, turning it this way and that, so the sun catches it. “And one day when we have our own son, we can continue the tradition.”

My hands cup her cheeks, pulling her in for a long kiss. “I’ll hold you to that, Mrs. Fortner.”

She grins. “I love the sound of that.”

The End
