I turn over in time to see him dropping the one good arm he had that isn’t in a sling.

The ass was about to throw another.

“You know those meds they gave me haven’t fully worn off yet, right?” I argue as that pillow settles back into his lap.

“Well, they basically gave you a horse tranquilizer so…”

I allow him to see my wince. “Was it that bad?”

“It wasn’t good,” he admits honestly.

I eye the room and he chucks the pillow at me in respite. “That’s for scaring me and everyone else.”

Gulping, he doesn’t have to say it because I know he’s talking about Rory. So, Princess had been here. I hadn’t imagined it after all.

My side screams as I twist back in his direction too rapidly. Not appreciating the second hit.

I catch his gaze and his mouth lifts in a secret smirk like it was payback. Well fine. Takingbothadditional pillows, I take my time fluffing and placing them before settling back in.

With nothing better to do, Finn is forced to watch because he can no longer do the same. All he has is a blanket and his mattress to keep himself cozy now.

I sink lower into my spot, not about to offer him one of them back. Sometimes lessons in life must be learned the hard way.

He harrumphs before I see that mischievous glint start to shine off his pupils. His finger is already on the button as I bury my face into the cotton fabric with a grunt.

Buzz.

“I wasn’t kidding when I said I could use a pizza.”

Iwashesitanttoshow. Especially after last night, but Hailey convinced me it would be better this time.

The bitter smell of bleach wafts through my senses. The sterile smell doing nothing to calm my raging nerves.

How could she be so positive when she hadn’t been the one to walk in on him abusing himself? She’d been pushed out of the room before she could see the nurses and doctors restraining him. Holding him down before he could cause more damage to his already beaten figure.

Eli and Hailey described every last explicit mark in detail after I’d questioned them relentlessly. They’d come back earlier from the hospital this morning. This trip was more successful than our first.

I couldn’t do it though. I refused to go with them even after Hailey begged.

Not after what I saw.

Eli was the one to sympathize with me as he pulled her along while I stayed home. Nibbling off what was left of my fingernails instead. Which, to be fair, hadn’t been much.

It was hours before they’d come back but I didn’t care how gruesome, I wanted to know everything. Needed it.

They’d described various scratches and cuts lining Cole’s neck and jaw. The one side of his face bruised entirely but I already knew about those. I’d seen them myself.

I wanted to know about the others because I knew there were more. There had to be with how fast Cole was driving when he slammed into the pole.

That’s the one thing that had my head swimming in a mangled sea of endless depth. Cole was upset when he’d left but with the momentum they’d described him going, it’s like he was running from something.

It didn’t make sense and it’s not like I’d had the chance to ask him, personally.

Hailey did tell me Cole’s ribs are bruised. The doctors said he should be grateful because miraculously somehow, he hadn’t broken any.
