Chapter Fourteen

FIONA

Mellie has come to sit with me every day for the last four days whenever Ronan goes out. I think she might be my babysitter. It’s probably Ronan’s idea. I snort at the thought. Who am I kidding? It’s definitely Ronan’s idea.

Don’t leave poor Fiona alone. She’s so helpless with only one working hand. I snort again, groaning in frustration when I struggle to set the coffee maker going.

“Here, let me.” Mellie brushes me aside, and I glare at her. She might be my best friend, but I could happily slap her right now.

“I had it,” I mutter mutinously. “I’m not useless.”

Mellie laughs, and I flip her off with my good hand.

“I know you’re not useless,” Mellie smirks over her shoulder at me as she easily gets the coffee machine ready with her two working hands. Lucky thing. “How about making yourself useful and set the bagels on a plate?”

I roll my eyes at her and poke out my tongue.

“I saw that,” she sings. I flip her off again before moving to grab a plate out for the bagels. They’re pre-cut and pre-stuffed. I wonder if Mellie bought them this way or if she made them up at home and brought them over.

Once the coffee and bagels are ready, Mellie and I slide onto the stools at the kitchen island, and Mellie’s eyes dart around.

“What?”

It’s wicked obvious that she finds something amusing.

“He got you here, in the end, didn’t he?”

I roll my eyes at her. Bitch. At least I lasted more than five hours after he fucked me for the first time.

“At least I didn’t cave the second he got his dick in me,” I retort. Mellie grins, looking unrepentant.

“You’ve seen our kitchen. Niall would have had to kick me out after getting a load of that.”

I smirk at her. Mellie always jokes that Niall is an angel who took her to live on a cloud. I know she’s just obsessed with her wet bar.

“I prefer brushed steel to white anyway,” I tell her pertly, but instead of being offended, she snorts at me.

“This is such a bachelor pad.” Her eyes roam around the space. I shrug. It’s very Ronan. I like it. “Maybe you should get him to buy a condo in our building. Then we could be neighbors.”

Niall and Ronan live five minutes from each other. And both within ten minutes of Oracle. How on top of her does she want me living?

“We’re already neighbors,” I point out. Mellie pouts at me.

“But if we were in the same building….”

My eyes narrow at her. You know what? This stinks of the Reaper’s over-protectiveness of his wife.

“Then Niall would let you visit me more?”

Mellie doesn’t even flush – she just laughs.

“Bingo,” she grins, pokering up quickly. “But seriously, you can come and stay with us. You know we have the spare bedroom.”

I blink at her in surprise. Niall and Mellie want me to stay with them? Instead of here with Ronan? I know Mellie has been coming over each day to spend time with me while Ronan’s out – I get how that would be easier if I stayed with them… but wouldn’t it upset Ronan?

He and Niall are… I don’t know if I would call them “besties,” but they’re tight. Moving in with Niall and Mellie would start a shit fight between them. Especially if Ronan ever found out I wasn’t the one who suggested it.

Niall totally suggested it. Mellie has been so excited that Ronan and I finally banged – even though she refuses to describe it that way – that there’s no way it was her idea that I move out of his bed.
